Pour is a bright copper with a small white head. Aroma is at first some vanilla and the oak. Then comes some pine hops. Flavor is oak again to start. The hops kinda dissapear but after the swallow some toffee and candi sugar appear. This is unlike any barleywine I’ve ever had. More of a oak aged imperial blonde ale. Still this is tasty and the 10% is there but not overpowering.

22 oz. bottle. Pours dark orange, with a small, beige head and some nice lacing. The aroma is caramel, syrup, and pine and floral hops. The flavor is very sweet, with just a little bitterness. The palate is heavy, thick, syrupy, and a little astringent. Overall, this beer is surprisingly good, with a great syrupy maltiness and mellow hop profile.

Bottle sample at a Samuel Adams tasting at kerenmk’s place. Thanks beerandbeyond. Clear deep golden-orange with a white head. Aroma of hops with citrus, pine, some tropical fruits ans alcohol. Later whiffs are more about vanilla and malt. Sweet malty flavor with a lot of vanilla, caramel, honey notes, a bit of fruitiness, alcohol and a finish with moderate bitterness. Medium-bodied, somewhat oily mouthfeel.

22 oz bottle. Pours a clear amber with an off-white head. Interesting hoppy aroma with strong floral, herbal, grassy, green grape notes. Flavor again has the strong green grape, floral, herbal hoppiness, bringing in toasted malt and caramel notes, plus the oak. Very interesting and pretty good, but this just falls a bit short in complexity, and I start to get a little bit tired of it eventually.

Complex is right....this had a lot going on, and not all of it was good. Caramel in color, buttery aroma with a hint of grape fruity hops. Taste is the acetyl butteriness upfront, then it starts with the burnt sugar which was not very appetizing, and ends with the floral and grapefruit kick that through me off a little. A good offering from Sam but in the end, this was not quite up to snuff.

Light orange pour - fairly large head for the abv at first, but it diminishes completely rather quickly, leave not even a hint of lace - notes of toasted oak/coconut, honey, tropical fruit and alcohol in the nose - flavor is an odd mix of zesty Nelson hops (with some tropical fruit notes from them, as well), coconut, spicy Zeus hops, peppery alcohol - seems fairly dry up front, but a honey, boozy sweetness develops late and sticks around through the finish - spicy hops stick around to try to balance - an interesting idea, but it doesn’t really come together - reminds me a bit of Samael’s from Avery, which is not a compliment.

Bottle. Pours a clear deep gold with a white head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a good amount of sweet grains and burnt sugar with a hint of oak and light grapefruit. Flavor starts with lots of burnt sugar and has a good amount of oak and a bit of grapefruit.
