This cider has a subtle oak flavour and has been sweetened with sugar. Why Black Bart? Well, the cider barn has a date stone 1829 and is attributed to Sir Watkins Williams Wynn Bart. Some of the apple varieties in Black Bart are ‘Kingston Blacks’ – a vintage cider apple. The cider is part matured in barrels and then I spotted Black Bart (aka Bartholomew Roberts) in a book about pirates. He spent a great deal of the early 1720’s plundering shipping around Barbados – the cider had to be called Black Bart!

Cloudy gold with a bubbly white head and a slightly tart apple aroma. Has a kick of acidity up front, sweet apple juice flavour with a hint of vanilla and a dry sweet finish.

Panda 🐼 at home thanks to SHIG. A clear golden orange coloured pour with a decent white fizz that fades. Aroma is semi swet, brown sugars, licks of vinegar, spicy tart apple. little barnyard on the nose. Flavour is composed semi sweet, apple curd, light bark, spicy verging on vinegar. Palate is semi sweet, rounded, highish carbonation.

Panda at home, thanks to SHIG, 11/04/21. Clear golden with a decent enough white covering as ciders go. Nose is crisp apple, orchard wood, tannins, apple core. Taste comprises sweet apple pulp, apple pie, sugars, tannins. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Ok but too sweet for me and lacking some balance in this respect.

21/4/2021. Bottle sample courtesy of SHIG, cheers! Pours clear bright golden with a small short lasting bubbly white head. Aroma of semi-sweet apples, caramel, sugary baked apple, light woody and mucky notes. Medium plus sweetness and light tartness. Medium body, quite fizzy. Drying, lightly tart and sweet fruity finish. Pretty decent.

Bottle from either This Is Beer or Stori, can't remember which. Appearance - golden with very little bubble and no head. As expected. Nose - bittersweet apple and apple skin. Taste - sweet apple this time, ripe and fresh. Palate - tangy and medium bodied. Sweet finish, but still with some tang in there. Overall - it's a sweet cider which isn't my usual, but enjoyed it, as a good example of the style.

500ml bottle, 6.4%. Golden colour, white foam head that quickly dissipates away and aroma of tangy fruity apple, caramel and some vinegary funk. Taste is sweet, juicy apple, woody oak, earthy funk and alittle dry tannin. Medium bodied, spritzy carbonation, sweetish finish. Nicely drinkable.
