Light, refreshing and beautifully balanced, Two Hoots is a golden ale savoured and favoured by the wise. At 4.2% ABV, it’s an easy-drinking beer suitable for a session in the pub or evening relaxer surrounded by home comforts.

Two Hoots is brewed with pale ale and lager malts with a generous helping of cascade whole hops, a favourite of the craft breweries in the US. The result sweeps you in to an invigorating, bright ale with a citrusy aroma and delicate fruit characteristics. Smooth on the palate, this ale won’t be ruffling any feathers.

A great golden beer that brings great wisdom all year round.

Cask at Haymarket. Pale gold with a thick white head. Caramel and hay aromas. Light sweet taste. Not a lot going on. A bit thin. OK.

On tap @ Bert’s Bar. Golden to amber with a decent head. There the pleasure ends - it’s got a real oxidised and butterscotch nose and this follows through onto the palate where it also adds an unpleasant astringent malt finish. The palate is thin and still astringent on the finish. Overall, not very good.

Bottle @ The Old Monkey - Joseph Holts pub on Portland Street in Manchester. Golden with no head. Has a high sour hop bitterness for its aroma and a slightly soapy texture. Has a mainly light bitterness for its flavour although a slight sweetness can be detected.

Clear golden beer with a thick, frothy head and a light, fruit and malt aroma. It looks a little too lively but it’s actually only a mild, pleasant fizz on the tongue. The flavour is fruit with a slightly sour edge though it’s not unpleasant for it.

500ml bottle - pretty ordinary beer, a golden body, gone-in-sixty-seconds white fizzy head, and yes, there is a bit of citrus in there. But by the time I’d finished it, I’d not noticed any good or bad features.

Retro reviews from Spring 2012 Wetherspoons Beer festival; quite sweet ale but refreshing.

One of 16 bottled beers in the 2011 Sainsbury’s Supermarket Beer Challange. Clear 500ml bottle, two owls on a small golden front label. The beer was poured into a UK pint sleeve (Sep 2011). I knew the beer was a clear golden colour, the head that came was white, small and struggled to stay the distance. The aroma was of grassy hops with maybe some citrus esters easing through as the beer warmed. No great flavours to pontificate about, just a boring blend of hops and malts, this isn’t going to win anything. Don’t like slagging off small breweries, but this is a poor attempt for a challenge against 15 other brews.

It requires a good sniff to get the aroma of this balance, crisp ale which feels light. Golden with a creamy head. Medium-high bitterness.

Cask at the Crosse Keys, JDW, London. Pours clear gold with a foamy white head. Looks perfect. Light dough in the nose with wisps of hay. Medium sweet flavor with definite hay and faint, tangy citrus. Light bodied with fine carbonation. Sweet finish with faint bitterness of hay, some lemon and light dough. A touch sweet without the necessary offsetting bitterness, but overall it’s a nice beer.
