Bottle on the train to Belgium for Paul’s "Stag Do", courtesy of Bunce - how he landed this gem I’ll never know! Pours cloudy black-brown with a medium, beige foam head and a bit of sediment. Dark ripe fruits in the nose, with some caramel, grapes, dates and raisins. medium sweet flavor with some tasty bread, a bit of dry and dark fruits, some burnt wood and earth. medium to full bodied with fine, smooth carbonation. Light dry finish with moderate roast, some dark fruits, warmth, lightly burnt wood, candi sugar, and mild earthy bitterness. Pretty solid.

Bottle (number 0177 of 2700) on the Eurostar to Brussels as part of my Pre-Wedding Celebrations, thanks to Mr. Bunce. It pours very dark brown, with a large beige head. The nose dark fruit (blackcurrant, prune and date), chocolate, roasted malt and varnish. The taste is charcoal, roasted malt, dark fruit, dark chocolate, liquorice, oak and alcohol warmth, with a long dry finish. Full body, moderate carbonation and foamy mouth-feel. Woodfordes have pulled it out of the bag! Tasty stuff.
