Sights & Swills Summer Holiday Beer#1. LONDON. Transiting through London continually heading south for the next week, but time for a quick couple in the big smoke. The Thames skyline is a bit different from when I moved to London in 1997. The beer is better now too with this a hoppy grainy, well balanced and flavoursome sweetish traditional mix. Slightly stewed citrus fruit.

[Cask at the Hope Tap (JDW), Reading today - definitely not out of production] An amber pour with a thin white head; citrus aroma; biscuity malt taste with a a citrusy bitterness; and a grainy finish with some grapefruit and pineapple. Not bad.

Cask at the Sussex Arms, Twickenham Green, 15/11/13. Lightly hazed golden with a good sized off white head that retains wells, excellent full glass lacing follows. Nose is light bread dough, straw, grain, orchard fruit, touch of malt. Taste comprises orchard fruit, bready malt, light caramel, biscuit. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, smooth on the palate, light bitter notes in the finish. Ok offering.

(Gravity cask at The Rake, Southwark, London, 21 April 2012) Golden amber colour with brief, white head. Fruity, malty nose with peaches, biscuits and tropical fruit. Malty, fruity taste with notes of citrus, apricots, biscuity malt and a slightly grassy bitterness in the finish. Medium body, with balanced sweetness. Well balanced and quite nice.

Cask gravity at Ealing Beer Festival 2008. Gold, thin bubbly off white head. Little bit of sulphur on aroma, but the malts are good. It’s actually a really satisfying best bitter. Good fullness. Nice bitterness which lasts on the finish.
