MacLir is a superb Wheat Beer, with resin hops and lemon fruit on the aroma, banana and lemon in the mouth, and a big, bitter finish dominated by the hops, juicy malt and citrus fruit. Unlike lightly hopped Bavarian or Belgian wheat beers, MacLir also comes armed with a veritable oast house full of little green plants.
Ingredients: Pride of Ringwood from New Zealand, Cascade and Cluster from the US, Saaz from the Czech Republic, Styrian Goldings from Slovenia, and First Gold and Goldings from England.

Cask, one-third pint at P4 Gray Bar, third day at GBBF’11. Bright surface to a crystal clear, golden coloured body. Fruit bitter nose. Smooth taste profile of citric fruits, including lemon and resin, added by a mild touch of ripe banana. Dry, subdued bitter endnotes. Rather tasty brew (London, 04.08.2011)

Cask at the Crosse Keys, JDW. Pours clear yellow with a bubbly, white head. Sugary, crispy malt nose, hay and straw. Fairly sweet flavor, biscuits, wet hay, baked corn, some dry grass and straw. Light in body with fine carbonation. Finish has some white sugar, burnt hay, faint lemon rind. Not bad, pretty drinkable.

Cask, handpump at The Swan & Castle, Oxford, with Loz, Jude & Baz 30.04.11 Some hops come through, but quite subdued, fruity and little sweetness with some citrus also in evidence. Golden in colour with some haze, some wheat shows. Its fine but not that memorable. A6 A3 T6 P3 Ov12 3.0

Cask at the Bear and Billet, Chester. Very fruity and mellow. Seems like there is more than 50% barley malt in here, as there is a good barley taste. Great wheat flavor, though, too. Very strong hops. It is rich and fruity, with a fruit and hop finish. Very nice.
