Every mill had a steam engine for driving equipment throughout the factory.
Each steam engine had to be ‘stoked up’ with coal to keep a good head of
steam, which in turn gave you a ‘slake of a thirst’.
Hops: Challenger , Fuggle, Goldings
Malt: Pale Ale, Black & Chocolate

Taste improved on the aroma with light cocoa powder, charr, biscuit, toffee, liquorice. Medium to thin body, moderate carbonation, semi drying close. Average mild.

Cask at Chippenham Beer Festival. Deep brown. Yay- found a mild amongst the last few undrunk barrels at the tail end of the last night of the fest. It’s dark brown, maybe a little watery but with pleasant flavours of chocolate, malt and a light roastiness. Very easy to knock this one back. You really can imagine slaking your thirst with this after a day down the mines.

Cask at GBBF 2011, Day 2. Pours clear brown with a light, bubbly head. Faint dark fruits and light, tangy malts in the aroma. Light sweet flavor, tangy, toasty, and faintly roasty. (Wow, how about that little turn of phrase?) Light bodied with fine carbonation. Mild finish, slightly bland, some tangy dark malts. Kind of left me hanging on some fronts but not altogether bad.
