This blood-red ale may not be what you expect from a malty and hoppy craft beer. Evil Twin has a rich malt character, without being overly sweet. It has a huge hop character, without being overly bitter. It is a great example of a bold, rich, balanced craft beer, without being heavy and hard to drink in quantity. Our Evil Twin is only bad because it is too good to resist.

Rich hazy deep amber coloured body with a thick, four centimetre tall tan head. Aroma of alcohol, caramel, toffee, grain, bright earthy hops and some pine as well. Medium to Full-bodied; Strong rich grain flavour with a lot of alcohol, some pine and caramel, earth, toffee, grapefruit and a lot of malt and burn on the end. Aftertaste shows some malt and grain flavours with a lot of alcohol, a ton of hop bitterness and some good sweetness. Overall, a nice and rich beer with a lot of flavours and some rather well hidden alcohol notes, but shows strong on the end. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from the Kona Wine Market in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii [Island], Hawaii on 10-August-2016 for US$8,10 sampled in my hotel/condo on 12-August-2016.

Can, 6.8%. Good fruity aroma. Clear dark amber colour. Small off-white head. The flavour is fruity with a good grapefruit hoppiness. Good mouthfeel, too.

Pours dark mahogany, reddish chestnut. Bit of beige foam that reduces into thinner film. Aroma has some malty happiness, rowan berries and red currants. Taste reveals nice red IPA character where you have strong malty backbone that contributes with berry-like flavours but also bread crust and bitterness. Hops are strong at the end, long ensuing dry bitter finish. Feels quite clear and relatively light, yet flavourful. Good one.

Clear deep amber colour, mid-sized macropore off-white to beige head, half-way lasting, good lacing. Aroma toasted malts, caramel, orange, tangerine, pine. Mild taste, medium sweet and bitter, malty, light toffee, citrus. Aftertaste mild bittersweet, piney, light spicy notes. Medium body, oily texture, soft carbonation, very smooth and drinkable, good.

A nice mildly hopped dark ipa. Good balance of roasted malts and hop bitterness. Very slight astringent taste to my palate. Overall slightly above average for the style. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
