A wonderful winter warmer. Deep amber, strong ale not for the faint hearted. A magical blend of malts with Styrian hops that give a mouth-watering hop aroma, smooth and warming malt flavours with a deep, spicy hop finish. Devilishly moreish.

Cask @ 3 Judges. Amber colour, off-white head. Aroma is soft caramel malts, some hops, bready, fruity. Flavour is soft malty, only a slight bitterness and some fruits. Strange, but well drinkable.

(Cask at Market Porter, Southwark, London, 28 Nov 2009) Nut brown colour with brief, beige head. Malty, nutty nose with dried fruit and caramel. Malty, nutty taste with notes of dried fruit, raisins, caramel and dusty hops in the finish. More than medium body, malt sweetness throughout. Nice and well balanced beer with a solid malt foundation and a good spicy bitterness to balance. Nice one.

Cask at the Monks Retreat (JDW), Reading. Golden amber with a dense cream head; citrus aroma; crisp grapefruit citrus flavour with some honey; and a dry, gently bitter finish.

Cask (Railway Arms, Alton) - Amber/gold in colour. Malty and slightly fruity aroma. The taste is grainy at first with malt dominating but then becomes more hoppy with citrus notes being evident in the finish.

Cask gravity at Reading BF 08. Hazy deep brown colour with lasting beige head. Getting towards the end of the barrel I fear. Bit rubbery on aroma. Probably needs a re-rate. But condition is good and flavour is a bit earthy.

Cask at the Royal Oak Beer Festival, Oakley, Bucks/Oxon border 03-05-08 Classic amber colour with a thin white bubbly head and a slight haze. Soft treacleness leads to a very rich full flavoured beer, really yummy, loads of malts and sweet dark molassess and even some hops in the background, I liked this but it might be a bit sweet for some.
