Only 120 precious barrels were brewed, adding more than half a ton of extra malt and twice the amount of Amarillo hops, so prepare your self for a full sensory explosion. The double dry-hop addition elevates the grapefruit-like aroma and flavor to an outrageous intensity, while the added malt raises the alcohol level from 7% all the way to 10% by volume.

12 oz. bottle, split with Matts_Property, pours hazy golden orange with a small white head. Pungent aroma of resinous hops, pine, grapefruit, mango and heaps of caramel malt to back. Flavour is quite bitter - strong resinous hops and pine, followed by grapefruit and tropical fruits, with just enough caramel malt to back. Long, lingering grapefruity and piney hop finish - substantially bitter. Wonderfully crafted.

Bottle 35,5 cl. Courtesy of Doodler. Pours a clear golden with an off-white head. Intense, herbal hop aroma. Solid body, sweet thick malts and fruit with a massive, herbal hoppiness. Bitter finish indeed but lacks some refinement. 220611

Sehr aromatischer Hopfenantrunk. 10/13/12/13/12/13

I once thought the alternative to being a hophead was to call yourself a maltophile. I know, I know, it makes you sound like someone who commits unspeakable acts upon unwitting mounds of malted barley. I used to be real stupid. I mean, I’m still fairly dumb, but not dumb enough to continue using the term "maltophile." I provide this exposition because Mojo Risin’ has always struck me as a Double IPA suitable for those who are still somewhat hop-phobic. The malts combine with the citric hops to create an orange-marmalade soul to the brew, yet without a lingering, resinous finish. Watch out, though. This pint disappears almost scarily fast for such a potent brew, no kidding. Well, a little kidding. Mojo Risin’ might lead you to believe you’re conducting an interview with the late Jim Morrison, only to be informed by your neighbor the next morning you spent half an hour the night before interviewing your azaleas with a ice cream scoop. Happened to me. Believe it, or not. (That phrase really only resonates when uttered in the husky, inhale-pause-speak-exhale-pause-repeat voice of Jack Palance.) (2/6/09)

Draught, 9.3%. Good grapefruity and otherwise fruity aroma. Cloudy orange copper colour. Very small white head. The flavour has a distinct grapefruit note note as many other APAs, but also a milder fruity note to round it off. The bitterness is not so distinct at first, what is more apparent is the nice hop bite in the finish. Very well-balanced, but could probably have done with a little less alcohol.

World Cup beer tasting at Lazy Boy Saloon Beer #8. Pours a pretty copper with nice sized head. tastes of grapfruit, grass, and hoppy. hides the alcohol well in my opinion with slightly sticky mouthfeel.

Cask at Max’s in Baltimore. Murky golden brown with a fluffy head that looks as if a sparkler was used. Aroma of grass and flowers. Taste is progressively bitter, start to finish. Drinks well below its strength. Nice.
