A Russian Imperial Porter which has been matured in Islay Whisky oak barrels from the Bruichladdich Scottish Distillery, giving it super strength, with a lovely high peat after taste.

Pours black with no head or fizz. Oaky, whiskey tones come through in the aroma as do charcoal and roasted malts. Initial malty flavour becomes more earthy with peaty whiskey coming through. A light honey sweetness is present among the bitterness and warming alcohol.

Bottle at the Semi-Final Tasting, my place in London. Your welcome, lads. Pours black brown and, lacking almost any semblance of a head, seems pretty flat. The nose is mostly whisky, with hints of dark malts and cocoa. Medium sweet flavor with lots of peat, dark cocoa, charcoal, earth and mild booze. Medium to full bodied with fine carbonation. Moderate heat in the finish, with loads more peat, baking cocoa, earth, and whisky to spare. Pretty damn good. One of the best barrel-aged UK beers I’ve had.

Bottle at Leighton’s Euro Semi-Final tasting, thanks to Leighton. It pours jet black, with a thin, bubbly tan head. The nose is floral, hay, strong whisky character, peated malt and smoke. The taste is whisky, smoked peat, charcoal, tangy fruit, salt, booze and oak, with a warming finish. Medium body and pretty much no carbonation. Dominated by the barrel-aging. A bit 1D, but not too bad.

Bottled. A pitch black beer with a thin dark brown head. The aroma has notes of alcohol, peated smoke, and roasted malt. The flavor is sweet with notes of peated smoke, roasted malt, alcohol, and raisins, leading to dry, roasted, alcoholic, and peated smokey finish.

Bottle 33 cl. Courtesy of madmitch76. Pours an opaque black with absolutely no head. Peaty aroma, damm - thick and gross iodine. Rich body, completely flat though, hard roast, dark dried fruits and heavy ashes and iodine. Malty bitter finish with a slightly tart edge. Sorry, I really, really don’t dig peat. 120412

Bottle from Tuckers Maltings. This one had 13.5% abv on the bottle. Thick black pour with a tan head which soon fades. Coffee and dark chocolate aroma. Butterscotch, sweet spice, coffee and licorice flavour. Very vinous. Rich, warming flavour. Throat tickling long vinous finish. Nice.
