Cask at William IV. Having this on Friday made Saturday morning very tough, although it was lovely. Dark brown, no head. Ultra sticky and thick. Aroma is lots of boozy sweetness, very roasty, lots of dark fruit, coffee liqueur. Taste is sweet caramel, treacle, lots of booze. A third was more than enough, but it was very nice.

Cask at King William IV, Bunny Basher ’15, 05/04/15. Pitch black with a moderately appointed dirty tan swirl that escapes edgeward. Nose is coffee, chocolate, biscuit, rich toffee sauce, restrained booze tunes, light peppery spice, stewed dark fruits. Taste is sweet, sweet, fucken more sweetness, go on - have some more ! coffee cake icing, liquorice, chocolate fondue, toffee fudge mix, oh - did I mention this is sweet? Full bodied, viscous, cloying and oily feel, lightly warming booze in an insanely sweet close. Interesting stuff, just way too sweet and no drinkability. Drinks below the ABV but I guess with the amount of sugar in this you don’t really get much chance to ascertain the ABV. Fun to tick, just one or two sips were all that was required. Would love to have poured some of this over vanilla ice cream!

Cask at King William IV Bunny Basher; pitch black pour with zero head, big meaty aroma, taste is very sweet, chocolate, meaty gravy stock, tangy dark fruits, a hint of liquorice, massively viscous mouthfeel, expectedly flat, glad I got to try this.

On tap at Bunny Basher (Brodies Beer Festival) King William IV, Leyton, London, Friday 18th April 2014 Pitch black no head, looks like a flat cola. Thick and oily texture in mouth and dangerously drinkable because you would never know it was 22%, that said it just tasted malty and far, far too sweet, in fact the beer that I least liked overall. Not sure that I am getting more than just a heavy cloying sweetness and malt? Mmhhh... glad to say that i’ve tried it but wouldn’t seek it out again. A6 A3 T6 P3 Ov12 3.0

Cask tap @ King William IV. Have to admit that I’m starting to get a bit tired over all these super strong, super boozy, molasses and soy souse flavored imp. stout, but this one was a definitively positive surprise. Yes, it’s still super strong and boozy, but with a lot more elegance than the average lot. A totally black body with practically no head. Strong and pleasant aroma of roasted malt, coffee, chocolate and alcohol. Flavor is very sweet indeed and warming alcoholic, lots of dark malt, roast, mocha, chocolate, dry fruit and moderate bitterness. There is a good complexity here, this beer feels almost like Kahlua or something similar, but nicer, the alcohol is definitively present, but not in a raw boozy way, its noble and warming. It’s still feels way too sweet, but very nice in smaller amounts and I believe the sweetness is needed to balance the alcohol. Full body with a never ending aftertaste. Another amazing beer from Brodies.

Big thanks to madmitch for that one! Good that I get to try this beer. Deep black in the glass, small head. Intense malty aroma. Starts strong, intense malty, lots of coffee and bitter chocolate. Quite strong but not as alcoholic as exspected. Warming malty finish, bitter chocolate. A great beer!

Cask at Brodies. It pours black, with a thin, bubbly head. The nose is roasted malt, coffee, milk chocolate, boiled sweet s and Calpol. The taste is sweets (particularly Black Jacks), candy floss, angel delight, liquorice, vanilla, coffee liqueur, milk chocolate and Calpol. Medium-full body, low carbonation and very well hidden alcohol. Complex and surprisingly smooth and light. A well made beer, but it’s perhaps a bit too sweet for me.

Cask at Brodies BF. Pours sludgy black with no head. Roasty nose, booze, tangy malts. Extremely sweet flavor, chewy, licorice, almonds, dark sugar. One of the fullest bodied beers I’ve ever had, with light carbonation. Warm finish, sticky sugars, chocolate liquor, brown and demerera sugar, faint roast, hoisin and soy sauces. A great beer overall. You definitely can’t drink more than 1/3 of a pint of so, but I could nurse that amount for over an hour and enjoy it the whole time.
