Originally brewed at Fanø Bryghus & made exclusively for the beer bar "Ma Che Siete Venuti A Fa’" in Rome, Italy. From 2020 brewed at Hill Farmstead. Recipe has evolved since the 2011 version brewed at Fanø.
This imperial stout was originally brewed by Ryan Witter-Merithew in 2011 at Fanø Bryghus, Denmark for Rome's legendary Ma Che Siete Venuti A Fà to celebrate the birth of the owner’s daughter. This reenvisioning of the original recipe benefits from the experience and learning inherent in a decade of growth. This version is more rich and velvety than it was nine years ago—one might taste the inspiration of Damon and the early structure of Danish-derived recipes. As with all of our bottles, this 10% abv imperial stout is bottle conditioned. May it coincide pleasantly with the onset of this pandemic winter season…

Bottle at RBESG GT 2023. 2023 bottling. Medium warmth, high bitterness. Shitloads of chocolate and coffee, light dark malt astringency. Quite tasty, quite good, not the level of greatness though.

Bottle. Pours opaque black, small tan head, nice lacing. Aroma is heavy roasty, molasses, cocoa. Flavor is light plus sweet, medium bitter. Full body.

Bottle thanks to Mike. Pours black with with small beige head that lasts. The aroma is roasted malt, licorice, cracker, raisin, wood. Slick body, dark chocolate, roast, licorice, dry finish, very good.

500 ml. Black pour, tan head. Aroma is smoky, coffee bean, and ash. Flavor is chocolate, coffee, and ashy and burnt grain. Nice in it’s own way. It is smoky.

500ml bottle at The Meldrum HF tasting. It pours opaque black with a decent tan head. The aroma is earthy roast, rich roasted malt, charred, malt biscuits, charred action, umami, liquorice, cacao nibs, dark chocolate, burnt toffee, maltesers, dull smoke, earth and pipe smoke. The taste is dry, bitter, slick, charred wood, rich roasted malt, umami, thick and slick, chewy, burnt toast, dark chocolate, dull vanilla, rocky road, umami, dark plum, date, spicy, charred, coffee grounds, espresso, burnt toast and liquorice with a slick, roasty finish. Fulsome body and moderate carbonation. Robust and flavourful. Tasty stuff.

Bottle @ Fanø Slumber Party, 2012. Pours black with a creamy head and lacings. Nose is roast, chocolate and coffee. Bitter roasted flavor. Some charcoal and a bit of warmth. Lovely ish.

27/03/2011 Ma che siete venuti a fà (tap). Nerissima impenetrabile, con discreta schiuma color senape, abbastanza persistente. Aroma pieno di malto tostato, caffettosa, con note di cioccolato e caramello, molto equilibrata. In bocca è inizialmente dolciastra (cioccolato), quindi evolve in un lungo finale amaro, caffettoso, luppolato. Molto ben bilanciata nel complesso. Corpo medio, carbonazione corretta. Ottima.

Draft at Makke. Dark brown, almost black, brown head. Aroma of dark cocoa and dark roast coffee. Taste is like extra thick chocolate syrup. Almost chewy. Surprised that this is 10%.
