OIBF Collaboration Brew: The idea for our collab with Upright (Portland, Oregon) started with the legendary album ‘Donuts’ by Jay Dee. Using water, malt, hops and yeast we wanted to create a candy like, donutty beer. The malt bill was about getting bready, dough-like flavours, so we used some wheat, Munchener malt and Biscuit malt. In the kettle we added Candy syrup and Goldings hops and in the hopback there were more Goldings and Mosiac hops to get some candy-like flavours. Fermented with a Belgian yeast strain for some bubblegum and even more candy-like flavor

33 cl bottle @ home. Hazy orange color. Big rocky white head with good retention. Aroma’s: malty sweet, earthy, yeast, light fruit. Retronasal there’s sweetness, fruit, light herbs. Flavor is light to moderate sweet, caramel malts, light yeast, light herbal. Medium bodied. Too much carbonation, gushing in the mouth with every sip. Finish is light to moderate bitter, light dry.

0.33 l bottle from ’De Molen’, bottled in July 2016. Clear, golden amber with a MASSIVE (!!!), stable, very dense, white head. There’s hardly any beer in the glass, it’s more or less foam only. Slightly bitter, moderately yeasty-spicy aroma of caramel, honey, clove and some vanilla. Sweetish, quite yeasty-spicy taste of caramel, honey, clove, some banana and hints of vanilla, followed by a medium long, quite bitter, rather yeasty-spicy finish. Probably medium-bodied, heavily effervescent mouthfeel, lively carbonation. Tastes okay, but it’s got way too much carbonation. Quite disappointing considering the price tag.

Bottle. Golden orange pour. Aroma of sweet ester, yeast and malt. Taste has yeast, sweet ester, malt, grassy hop and some cardboard. It seems nice, but the cardboard carbo is a bummer.
