Review from notes, sampled 1/13/2008 Pours a crystal clear copper color with a reddish orange hue when held up to the light. Meager head dissipates to lace on the glass. Aroma is piney, grapefruity, citrusy hops, some alcohol and a faint caramel malt in the background. Tastes like it smells. Bit of a hop bite on the tongue and in the aftertaste. Body is a bit thinner than I expected, not much malt going on here. Overall its an ok Barleywine, the alcohol is well hidden by the hops. I would have liked a bit more of a malt backbone.

Tap at Amesbury Ale House. Pours deep amber into a shaker. Off-white head recedes to hug rim. Orange citrus aromas. Well balanced with fruity citrus and dark caramel. Lasting toffee and hop finish. ABV very well hidden.

on tap @ Red Hook brew pub. Pours a dark copper red color with a decent amount of head with large bubbles. The taste is bright and fruity at first sort of like a tart pear, or apple. Would not have guessed the alcohol content was so high, yet it does have a slight warming finish.I drank the 2010 yet would love to try some of the aged bottles. I don’t know a lot about this style of beer. I’m getting ready to try a few more to get an idea of what it’s all about.

Shared on the bus, RBSG. Orange-brown color with lace. Very carmelly, toffee, buttery aroma. Same in the flavor, but it has a sour edge to it as well, actually. Citrus, strong bitterness at the end. OK.

Bottle Pours out a orange/amber topped with a sand head. Aroma was sweet, plenty of vanilla, caramel, honey, and light hop notes. Taste much as the aroma a nice balance of sweet and rich malts along with a little bitterness.

Clear bright amber and bronze coloured body with a very thin off-white head and very nice ruby tints when held up to a light. Aroma of potent alcohol, fruits, alcohol, bananas, nuts, malt and some fresh hops. Full-bodied; Assertive strong hops tastes in the front-end of the taste with some fruity and bittering dry taste with a lot of alcohol warmth behind and a touch of caramel at the end. Aftertaste is quite bitter from the hops yet very warm and sweet from the alcohol and fruits. Overall, a good and somewhat unrefined (read bitter/harsh) barley wine that shows some good characteristics. However, I hate large bottled barley wines (or any big beers) and was put off by a 65 cL barleywine. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Wegman’s in Dulles, Virginia on 19-March-2010, sampled at home in Washington on 23-March-2010.

22oz bottle–thanks decaturstevo for sharing-pours a tan head and copper color. Aroma is pineapple, some medium malt. Taste is pineapple from the can with that slight metallic and tin/some resin, secondary medium malt-molasses/caramel, spice hops.

Location: 22 oz bottle from Norm's, 3/8/10

Aroma: Lots of sweet fruity malt notes, dark fruits, caramel, citrus, pear, and berries
Appearance: Clear redddish-amber color with a thin off-white head and spotty lace
Flavor: Rather sweet and malty flavors up-front with a late bitter hop flavor
Palate: Relatively full bodied, it has a chewy feel to it, and has just a touch of alcohol burn
Overall Impression: This beer was better then my expectations. It's actually quite good, a little simplistic, but solid none-the-less. I didn't expect to enjoy this one nearly as much as I did.
