Sampled from the bottle at the 2010 Indiana Winterfest. Poured murky yellow brown with a tan head. Aroma had a nice combination of malts and hops. Flavor was much more one note with sweet malts throughout giving a bit of a caramel flavor.

Pours with a clear dark copper body that throws up a tall frothy light tan head. Caramel, maple and vanilla aroma. Lightly sweet but not overly so, the subtle hop bitterness is apparent beneath the malts. Good average BW.

Bomber from Malt & Vine. Pours amber/copper with an off-white head that’s rather foamy. Aromas of burnt caramel and aged hop. Full bodied with creamy carbonation. Flavor is more citrus/resin than anything, but some good caramel is underneath. This stuff is really hoppy for a barley wine. Killer ale.

Sampled from a 22 oz brown bottle this beer poured a red-orange color with a large orange-white head. The aroma was light sweet candied fruits, fruity hops and a touch of caramel and nut. The flavor was sour and nutty with a fairly strong piney hop presence and a vague fruity hop undertone and hints of ginger, caramel and nut. Medium length bitter fruity finish. Moderately thick. Interesting but lacking oomph.

Bottle marked 09/08/09 thanks to cavie. Pours with a golden body and a fading white head. Aroma is hoppy with honey and caramel. Taste is hoppy with pine, orange and caramel. Definitely an American style barleywine that reminds me a bit of Old Guardian. Light bubbles and syrupy.

Sampled at Toronado 2009 Barleywine Festival. Pours hazy copper to gold with off white head. The aroma has a mild mix of pine hops and dark fruitiness to go along with milder notes of malts and alcohol chemical heat. The taste is bold and nearly harsh with pine hop resiny bitterness moving into modest levels of dark fruity esters. By midway it maintains mostly pine hop bitterness only tempered by mild malt sweetness. Nice American style barleywine.

Draft. Amber beer with a cream colored head. Sweet malt aroma with some earthiness and very light hops. Sweet malt flavor with earth and light citrus hops. Medium bodied. Sweet malt lingers with some light mustiness and hops backing. Well balanced.

Shared by goldtwins. Pours a completely lucid copper color. Aroma is super-sweet-hard raisin candy. It’s actually your pretty basic strong, filtered to the gills, barleywine. Taste is strong, raisin, and astringent caramel. It’s not necessarily bad, just not interesting and trite. What is worst of all is an AB-like dumb catch phrase on the label; "hand brewed."
12oz bottle, Stone 11th Anniversary tasting glass.

12 oz bottle from Porterhouse! Thanks Kevin! Nose is berry, caramel, and alcohol; clear, rusty copper with a small straw head; flavor is sweet strawberry, warm alcohol, and some hop bitterness; finish is alcohol and bitterness; not a great barleywine but a warm flavorful one; would probably be better with some age on it!

Golden-amber colour. Peachy-malty nose. Hints of pears. A little bit stiff - unbalanced booze. Deep, tasty fruitiness and a hint of caramel malts, but it’s a little simplistic.
