Caramel brown with a hint of chocolate, Brewhouse Brown melds four kinds of malt to create a satisfying, thirst-quenching brew. Best enjoyed at 55 degrees, this ale is slightly rich and roasty, yet leaves a dry finish. It is the perfect companion for a hearty meal.

Notes from 8/8/2008. Leftover beer thanks to Big Texas. Brought me plenty of styrofoam & bubble wrap to go with it too. I'm amused by simple things. :) Bottle dropped straight down into a DFH pint glass. Inch or so of Ovaltine head, a deep russet brown(but looking filtered), it appears a bit greasy. Smell is mild. A little dusty, with a little burnt toffee, hay-ish, a puff of smoke, & something a little edgy in between anise & hickory. Taste is dirty; Damp & murky. Licking newspaper off my fingers, I get some bitter chocolate, dry generic nuttiness, a quick punch of cola sweetness, & a slight bit of smoke. Finish is coffee-ishly bitter, but with a multivitamin-like itch. Feel is watery & a little tacky(like licking envelopes). Carbonation could use some more kick. As easy to drink as you want it to be. I forgive you though. The bacon pizza more then made up for this. :P

I got this bottle as an extra after a trade with JDV. Thanks Deniz!
This beer pours from 12oz bottle a dark brown with red highlights and a small head of foam.
The smell has a nice malty nose, some sweetness and some roastiness.
The taste starts off with a solid malt backbone of roasted, caramel, and some biscuit malt with a bit of hop bitterness in the background to balance out the malt. When swishing the beer in my mouth, the biscuit becomes more pronounced and I taste some nutty flavour as well. Nice. It has a thin mouthfeel, the carbonation is medium, and it finishes with a slight bitterness. I like this English Brown Ale. Very eazsy to drink and quite tasty. My first sample from Real Ale Brewing and they've done a good job.
Thanks again, Deniz!

Rachel brought this one back from a trip to San Antonio. +++ Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a dark brown color with red highlights and a large foamy tan head that lingered and left good lacing. The aroma was cola, cocoa, vanilla, fairly prominent nut and a bit of dark fruit. The flavor was woody and toasty with a strong nut presence followed by faint cola, dark fruit and smoke. Long toasty and nutty finish. Medium body. Excellent. I wish I could get more of this one.

Bottle. Roasty malt, chocolate, and some very light coffee aroma. Dark brown with a moderate tan head. Roasty earthy malt flavor with some light chocolate sweetness and a bit of lactic sourness. Light to medium body, moderate carbonation.

Bottle. Pours a leathery brown with little (if any head) and by the time I’m typing there is just a thin ring of bubbles around the edges of the glass. Aromas are of roasted malt with just a hint of chocolate, autumn leaves and soil and a little bit of nuttiness. Flavor is a nice mix of roasted malts as noted in the aroma with a little bit of a cola edge... It’s the best of the Real Ale sampler from the night, and that’s saying something, since Brown Ales are generally something I don’t get too excited about.
