Cask at Hants Oktoberfest. Warm coffee and stewed fruits. Dark black. Thin bubbly beige head. Medium bitter. Coffee. Cough medicine. Light-medium. Surprisingly thin. Flat carb. Longish finish. Fait enough. Not the greatest Impy Stout.

Bottle at home, 21st November 14. Been after this one for a while. Pours a large head. Dissipates and leaves a good looking glass. Aroma is dry, cocoa slight sweet, a little liquorice. Taste is dry, cocoa powder, some coffee and a little ash. Nice simple stout.

Bottle: Literally black with a brownish/tanned head, freshly ground coffee and roasted malt in the nose, a slight acidity is detectable; dry bitter flavour - a bit sourish, too, any sweetness hardly detectable, quite soft; dryish fruity and also leathery traces in the lingering bitter and slightly sweet finish. Good, but really not well rounded…

Chelmsford Beer Festival. Opaque black - brown beer. Little tan head. Palate is smooth and slightly viscous. Rich dark malt, touch of roast. Whisper of coffee and spicy bubblegum ester. Light cereal. Touch of red berry fruits. Finishes smooth with a whisper of brandy and dark chocolate. Nice flavours here but it could do with a more luxuriant palate in which to deliver them.

Gravity dispense at Ascot Racecourse Beer Festival 2012 - 06/10/12. Pitch black with a thin mocha head which retains well. Big roast malt nose, chocolate, coffee, a little plastic. Tastes of bitter chocolate, dry roast malts, locqourice, molasses. Full bodied with little carbonation leading to a dryish finish. Good stuff!

Bottle at home in London. Pours opaque black with a moderate, tan head. I had to pour with quite a bit of vigor to coax some life into this fella. Nice, very dark malt aroma, some filter coffee, roasted cocoa, peat, liqueur. Interesting flavor. Not nearly as intense as I had expected. Some dry, roasty malts, leathery fruits, light grass, fire-kissed wood, burnt bread. Medium bodied with soft carbonation. There’s a bit more bitterness in the finish, a lightly grassy, peaty, roasty bitterness, with moderate sweetness, some dark berries, faint warmth but very little alcohol presence. A surprisingly quick finish, very little lingering around here. Some light peat and tobacco, faint grass - that’s about it. A very drinkable imperial stout. Not bad at all.
