Very dark brown. Dark sugars, molasses, cocoa, deep ripened fruits, and roasted malts in the aroma. Thin mouth feel. Wonderful sour malts, chocolate, roasted barley, light smoke, some deep fruit in the flavor. Really great porter.

22 ounce bottle from Wine Warehouse in Charlottesville, VA. Pours a dark brown color with a thin head. Decent head retention and lacing. Aroma of dark, chewy malts, some slight roastiness and chocolate. A faint bit of smoke as well. The taste is roasted malts, chocolate, some nutty notes, minty hops. Smooth, medium bodied. Very nice porter.

Very rich, delicious beer. Had on tap at Rattle n Hum. Pours a pitch black hue with a frothy, beige head. Hose is all roasted malts with notes of coffee and chocolate. Flavor emphasizes the burnt malts, with coffee and chocolate notes again, dominating the palette. Smooth and creamy, the beer finishes cleanly and leaves a nice, roasty malt aftertaste. If you like this kind of beer, you will really enjoy this particular beer.

Bottle with a ton of sediment at the bottom. Coca-cola brown body with rock head with large bubbles. Good retention. Aroma of cocoa dust, dirt and leather, with a nice mocha quality. Also a little roasty and metallic finish to the nose. Taste is very roasty with low residual sugars. Earthy, leathery and dry components. Slight metal. Bitter chocolate and a bit of dark fruits. A bit thin and dry on the mouth. Alcohol isn’t really detectable.

Pitch black coloured body with a nice dense tan head on top of a fully opaque body. Aroma of fresh hops (odd that its the first scent), chocolate, coffee and a faint nuttiness. Medium-bodied; Sharp metallic twang then opens up to a malty taste full of chocolate and coffee. Aftertaste clean and very refreshing - nothing harsh or bitter at all - a great finish. Overall, a good beer - definitely good for the style. Try this one if its available to you! I sampled this 75 cL bottle purchased from Chevy Chase Wine & Liquors in Washington, D.C. on 02-June-2005 at Jon(R888710)’s.

Bottle from Oak Tree Discount Wines & Spirits in South Plainfield, NJ. The beer is a shiny black color with a medium thick and foamy tan head that burns away slowly. Patchy lacing on the glass. Aroma of cocoa, bitter coffee and dark fruit. Medium-bodied with a bitter coffee character, and flavors of dark chocolate and astringent hops with only a little bit of malt balance. The finish is thin and bitter with just a touch of coffee aftertaste. Barely average overall.

Pours deep brown/black into an English pint. Extreme micro head fills glass. Time for a second pint...pour gently...stop at rim...foam continues to pile out of the glass for 5 minutes onto the countertop. Unhappy experience so far. Deep chocolate and espresso notes. Flat, sour/salty with a bitter hop finish. No good. My first drain pour.

25 oz bottle-pours a brown head with dark brown color. Aroma is coffee, dark malt and slight estringent. Taste starts OK then turns sour like a lambic porter. Oops, a bad bottle got out. Will rerate this with another bottle hopefully.

Deep brown ale with thick moka head. Explosive in character. Fruity chocolate with yeasty notes, very belgian in style. Good rich chocolate, not too sweet, a bit overcarbonated. Nice hops in finale. Rich bodied.
