10% blonde Belgian beer, Solebay Celebratory Beer was brewed to celebrate the 350th anniversary of Brewing at the Sole Bay brewery. We decided late one night that the beer should be based on the strong sparking Belgian style beers we were enjoying at the retirement do of our production manager and chief engineer, Bob Lee. This beer was brewed with East Anglian Pilsner malted barley, Demerara and Muscavado sugar, lightly hopped with Nelson Sauvign. We added a few springs of locally grown lavender at the end of fermentation to add a subtle floral touch.atory beer created in celebration of 350 years of brewing at Adnams.

Bottle at Craft Beer Rising 2014 - London. Pours clear bright gold with a frothy, white head. Good beer. The nose has yeast, light ginger, lime. Medium to big sweet flavour, with pale and lightly doughy malts, white sugar, floral notes. Full bodied with fine carbonation. Faintly warming to finish, with rich and sugary pale malts, light dough, yeast, flowers, mellow citrus and ginger. Nice, dynamic.

Bottle from Adnams Cellar and Kitchen, Holkham, Norfolk. Hazy, orangey amber. Thin, filmy, sticky, white head. Thick, sweet, grainy malt. Marzipan. Almonds. Gingerbread. Light, yeasty, breadiness. Taste is spicy dry. Some chewy, fruity sweetness. Palate is chewy and thick. Ton of stuff going on in this. Bready, yeasty, dry, chewy finish. Very easy drinking.

Bottle courtesy of Helen & Geraint, Oxford, consumed Saturday 31st May 2014 had this at Carol & Haydns Summer party. Pours orangey gold with white/off white head. Sweet and malty with some alcohol soaked orange peel. A big beer but actually one that drinks considerably easier than 10%. Quite thick and substantial in mouth, but as mentioned orangey, its very good, thanks to Geraint and Helen for letting me try this. A7 A4 T7 P4 Ov15 3.7

Bit of weird one to have after all the imperial stouts, pours golden with a white head, high sparkle. Aromas of orange and mint, some green apple. Taste has more herbal notes and a toffee sweetness. Clean finish, good.

(Bottle) Chose a celebratory beer from one of my favourite breweries for my 800th rating - thanks Mandy and Duncan. Pours slightly hazy golden amber with little head. Fine, light and balanced aroma of light malt with grassy hops. The palate is full bodied, rich, almost sticky, with very fine, moderate carbonation. The taste is well balanced; rich but not overly so. There is a rich backbone of sweet light malt. The foretaste has some balancing citrus / green apple tang. The mid palate is all sticky sweetness, and then some pleasant bitterness, with a hint of alcohol burn, develops to bring back balance. This bitterness persists giving a long finish which is a mix of sweet malt and hop bitterness, with the hops winning out in the end for a crisp close. A very unusual beer; really a sparkling barley wine, I guess. Clever, different, impressive, and dangerously quaffable - at over 10% in a 0.75 litre bottle.

Lovely packaged 0.75 Litre bottle; poured into four tumblers just before a wedding in Sep 2012. Amber/orange body; with an off-white head on each glass. Malty molasses in the nose, with yeast and summer fruit esters in the mix. The taste was also leaning towards maltiness with a yeast and fruity feel. You’d never guess it was from Adnam’s because of the ‘Belgian’ feel it has and of course the alcohol level. Really liked it, pity it was shared with my Dad and two brothers!

Bottled. An amber beer with an off-white head. The aroma has strong notes of fruit combined with medium notes of yeast. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, yeast, and fruit, leading to a dry alcoholic finish. A fine Belgian Ale.
