This shimmering gold amber coloured beer has a light, smoked malt aroma. It’s well-rounded, with a great taste of malts and with a hint of sweetness. The smoky taste is quite dominant at each new draught. An original and notable beer, La Charbonnière is a house specialty.

Draft- Smokey with a bit of dark fruit. Dark clear amber with a decent beige head. Light smoke with a light malt roast and a hint of sourness to cut the sweetness. A nice sessionable smoked beer.

Poured from 341mL bottle. Clear medium brown with beige head. Predominantly smoked malt aroma with very mild hint of maple and caramel adding sweetness to it. Full smokey wood flavour, but not overbearing. Some mild smokey protein - perhaps smoked cheese. Very subtle caramel and hops. Medium body.

Pretty decent smoked beer. The elements are all under control here. Pours translucent brown with good head and lacing. Aroma of burnt marlins some caramel. Soft carbonation. Bittersweet aftertaste. Tap at barhop.

Aroma: Smoke, firewood and nothing else. Only fire Appearance: Clear, brown, with few head that is diminishing fast and no lacing. Taste: Smoke is all over and killing all other flavors. Texture is thin and light. I once said that smoke beers are not my bag and it’s certainly not this one that is going to change my mind. Boquébière’s Porter Fumé was clearly ahead. Sorry Dieu du Ciel, missed with me on this one.

341mL bottle, pours a clear dark amber with a small beige head. Aroma is an ashtray and smokepit, not much else. Flavour is a potent mix of ashtray, smoke, cigarette butt, etc. I don't understand how people can like this, unless you enjoy chewing on the end of a cigarette butt. This is just disgusting to me.

Originally rated October 2005. Sampled at the brewpub, in company of S8n on September 17, 2005. Pours a medium amber colour, on the light side. The head is small and white with not much retention and minimal lace. The aroma is actually not smokey, I was surprised, being more on the Irish red ale scent and mild too. Creamy mouthfeel. Very nice mild smokey middle with a smooth finish and lingering in the aftertaste. A very nice mild rauchbier that is good for session.

Bottle. Dark amber with a beige head that fades to a coat. Aroma of beech smoke and toasty caramel. Taste is sweet and smoky with meaty/ cheesy notes. Finish not bitter, but the sweetness is cleaned up and gentle smoke lingers. Very nicely balanced - the smoke is big but not sharply intense, it opens out though the beer. Classy.

From a 341ml bottle on 11/9/2011. AVB listed as 5.4%. Pours a slightly cloudy amber with a big head. Smells like a cross between an extinguished campfire and a pan full of bacon. A rich smokey bacon is the most prominent flavour, but there’s also a touch of fruit, a little roasted malt and a nice dash of hops. A very nice, distinctive smoked beer.
