16/IV/21 - 33cl can from Bierhalle Deconinck (Vichte), shared @ home, BB: 31/XII/22 (2021-297)

Clear deep orange to almost amber beer, small creamy bit irregular off-white head, stable, bit adhesive. Aroma: very smoky, very peated, bit chemical, smells like apothecary, slightly rubbery, bit weird. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: smoky start, super peated, chemical, bit sweet, caramel, lots of alcohol. Aftertaste: more peated, lots of alcohol, bit chemical, very smoky, more apothecary, band-aid, way too peated, not very balanced.

33cl bottle. Pours hazy deep orange golden colour with a huge and creamy off-white head. Aroma of smoke, a lot of peat, spices, pepper. Taste of strong malt, smoke, peat, ripe bitter fruits, a lot of hops, very complex, nice!

Bottle, 05.2018 (from beernavigator). Pours amber with huge beige head. The head stays. Aroma is sweet, chili, malt, smoke, cow shit, tar and rubber. Flavor is sweet and bitter, smoke, tar, malt, chili, some citrus. Finish is tar and smoked chili. Covers alcohol surprisngly well. Overall: weird, but I kind of like it in a perverse kind of way. Not sure why it’s under DIPA, when it’s clearly more in the style of spice/herb or smoked than DIPA (meaning: don’t expect any DIPA characters from this). --- Beer merged from original tick of CANE (2015) on 01 Jun 2023 at 12:28. Draft at De Stad, Utrecht. Very hazy orange with a white head. Aroma of big brett funk (infection I guess), smoky notes, band-aid, caramel, black pepper and malt with some fruity bits. Flavour is above moderate sweet and moderate bitter. Medium bodied with light carbonation.

First peaty smokyness, slowly sliding into peppery heat without being too hot. Ending with a nice bitterness. Lovely.

Sampled from tap at Brouwersfestival Utrecht 2016. Hazy, golden brown with a tan head. Sweetish, peppery and smoky aroma of caramel, pepper and ash. Sweetish, smoky and peppery taste of mango, caramel, ash and pepper, followed by a medium long, slightly bitter, peppery finish. Medium to full body, creamy mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Very nice!

Bottle @ Kloek, Nachtegaalstraat, Utrecht. Hazy amber colour, nose of tropical fruit, pineapple, chili and cane sugar. Strange but very well balanced. I like this beer!
