A golden mid-gravity bitter with initial sweetness balanced with a moderate hop bitterness. Dry-hopped with Fuggles to give a delicate aroma complimented by a subtle hint of Moor land berry, a favourite with Grouse. Our home town of Masham lies on the eastern edge of the famous Yorkshire Dales in the lower end of Wensleydale, one of the most beautiful areas of the country. Just to the east, lies the Vale of York and beyond the wonderful North York Moors. As such, Masham is in the middle of two of the best moorland areas in the world and home of the uniquely British game bird, the Grouse.
Theakston Grouse Beater is our tribute to the many who keep and protect the moors environment ensuring the future for the famous bird and also for the pleasure of many thousands of visitors that come from all over to enjoy the unique beauty of the countryside. Grouse Beater is brewed using Moorland berries to give a deliciously fruity flavour on a subtle but well balanced bitter.

(Cask) Clear deep gold with good white head. Creamy fruity aroma. Medium body with lovely soft carbonation. Unusual taste. Fruity and bubblegum and creamy flavours overlaid on a decent bitter. Rather odd but very drinkable.

(Cask at Akkurat, Stockholm, 11 Nov 2022) Golden colour with frothy, off-white head. Fruity nose with blackberries, citrus and red fruit. Fruity taste with notes of blackberries, biscuits, citrus, bread and a mild citric bitterness in the finish. Medium body, with a touch of sweetness. Refreshing, with a generous blackberry character. Quite nice.

I thought this beer might be “off”, but then I read the previous reviews and they said the same thing ! Anyway, cask at Bird in Hand, Stafford.. Pours a hazy golden amber with a small off-white head and good lacing. Aroma has bananas and malts. In the mouth the texture is creamy and the overall taste somewhat sour. In the tems of flavour there is a strange combination of dried apricots and overripe bananas, plus some hints of floral hops. This is weird – a definite NO from me !

Cask @ Crown Inn, Hebden Bridge. Deep golden with a thick creamy head. Hopped with a tasty strawberry sweetness in both aroma and taste.

Cask pint in the newly refurbished Oddfellows, Wellington Shropshire. Good looking amber body with a full, lasting head. The nose and taste were of hedgerow fruits and red berries with plenty of malty sweetness to balance out semi-sourness of the fruits. Mid bodied and enjoyable, all the other beers I had on the night of 8th Aug 2014 were golden and light, this stood out as my beer of the evening because of it’s colour and flavour.

Clear pint with a thin, creamy head. A very fruity taste that I found to be overly sweet, if I was to drink one again I’d have to be planning to nurse it a bit.

Cask @ Abbey Inn, Kinloss 040812
Golden amber, creamy white head, good lacing
Aroma - very fruity, blackcurrant / blueberry, rather odd but likeable, some caramel malt in the background, pleasant
Taste - strong fruity berries, blackcurrants, blueberries, ok - the fruity flavour seems tacked on to a soft bitter with caramel malt and light biscuit. Its a weird beer that’s really quaffable.
Palate - soft carb, thin to medium body. Finish - bit dry, light biscuit, bitter hop, slight metallic edge though
Overall - OK other drinkers might dislike this but I actually like drinking this beer even if it’s so odd

6th August 2010. GBBF.
Clear gold beer. Amazing fruit salad sweets nose! Carries over in to the flavour with sweet fruit salad sweets and a jarring note of smoke in the background. Semi dry finish. A bizarre beer - is it really meant to taste like this? Hard to dislike though!
