[as Troll Geisha, 2022 edition] Bottiglia.

2012 edition.

No sound when I popped the cap, it’s a very dark brown, almost black, with a very fine layer of foam.

The smell has some Port like aromas coming from it...dark fruits, and a sweetness to it that seems to come with all Port like brews.

Made with candi sugar and it tastes it. That kind of drowns out the promising Port flavour I expected from the smell. There’s a strange hop bitterness that I can’t quite put my finger on but it isn’t all that forward so that’s okay.

Medium bodied with surprisingly little heat coming from the ample abv. I sense no carbonation.

All in all, it’s pretty good but NOT at +$19 for the 375ml bottle. I know, no one forced me to buy it but I had to check it out. ;^) --- Beer merged from original tick of Geisha on 12 Nov 2014 at 14:24 - Score: 7. Original review text: Some Port, a lot of candi sugar, the alcohol is hidden in the taste pretty well. Worth +$19 for the 375ml bottle? I don't think so.

Cloudy brown - red beer, good creamy head. Sweet malt nose. Soft smooth palate. Sweet caramel malt with some toffee. Figs and dates when the beer is cold. As it warms up there is honey, guava and traces of red wine and aniseed. Smooth creamy finish. Tiny bit of bitterness in the aftertaste. Delicious!! Unusual and highly drinkable!

Bottle at Open Baladin. Beer list said 12%. Pours garnet with a few bubbles. Very fruity aroma.Very fruits de bois. Med body. Little carb. Flavor is lightly herby medicinal, but still fruits de bois. Sweet but not too strongly so. The fruit tends to cut the sugar. Amazingly there is no heat. Tho my brow begins to emit droplets. Brilliant beer.

2008 bottle. $20 375ml...not sure why I bought this, but there are a couple other Italian beers locally that are over $30, so I guess this isn’t a horrible price...wait, it is! Pours with a murky brown body and a very minimal (if any head). Some alcohol legs. Aromas of brandy, brown sugar, dark fruits, raisins, almonds, red wine, red licorice, earth and tobacco. Mellow alcohol. Flavors are super sweet, licorice, prunes and ripe plums. Tons of brown sugar. Raw turbinado sugar and raw hazelnuts. Fruity. Sweet, boozy and tasty, but not worth the price. Not remotely worth it (if it was half the price, then maybe). Syrupy. Light bubbles.

Hazy dark amber with a medium beige head. Sweet aroma with roasted malt, caramel and overripe fruits. Flavor had roasted malt, caramel, overripe fruits and toffee. Finished sweet. Not bad for the style.

Bottled. A deep red beer with a huge lazing light brown head. The aroma has notes of phenols, malt, caramel, and a bit of fruit. The flavor is very sweet with notes of caramel, malt, fruit, and alcohol, leading to a dry, fruity, and alcoholic finish.
