A beer that’s as Original today as it was in 1807, when Daniel Thwaites himself began brewing. A clean dry tasting and refreshing session bitter with a glowing amber appearance. Brewed using premium grade Maris Otter malt and a blend of traditional English Hops including Goldings and Fuggles to give a malty flavoured beer with a delicate dry finish.

50cl bottle from B&M, Reading. An amber pour with a loose white head; stewed malt aroma; sweet malty taste with some caramel and a thin nettley bitterness; and a twiggy bitter finish. Rather sweet and innocuous.

Bottle thanks to allmyvinyl. Appearance - golden amber with a decent head. Nose - big toffee even butterscotch nose. Taste - caramel and light toast note. Palate - light to medium bodied with a creamy and tangy texture. Unfortunately the finish is too sweet. Overall - alright. Not amazing.

500ml bottle, 3.6%. Pours clear copper, short-lived white head. Aromas of caramel and iron filings. Taste is sweet, faint earthy bitterness. Watery, dull. Everything you’d expect.

Bottle. Amber in colour with a small frothy head. This is a true bitter in style, although not overly bitter in character. Easy to drink with a very small sweetness before the bitterness.

500ml Bottle: poured into a UK pint sleeve on 7 Sep 2013. Amber and clean looking body, weak head of off-white bubbles that soon turned into a wisp and collar. Not overly impressed with this brew to be honest: bland and almost boring in nature. The nose and taste lean towards malts and the beer is moving along semi-sweet lines rather than bitter. It followed a bottle of Brain’s Original Bitter and it just wasn’t as good as the Welsh beer before it: in any category. A disappointment.
