750mL bottle, pours pitch black with a small brown head. Aroma brings out the cedar above anything, drowning out anything else of the base memory, subtle aromas of smoked meat, pepper and light chocolate malts. Flavour is very pepper and herbally, with the pepper and shitloads of the cedar upfront, dominating everything. After a while, the impie stout characteristic reveal themselves even more, with some roast and chocolate... but the pepper and cedar completely dominate this thing. Solid, though very odd. Not sure the cedar goes well with any style, now having had this with both the the Jai Alai IPA and Marshal Zhukov.

Sweet, wood, very dry bitter, roasted taste. Dry, wood, bitter, dandelion, roasted aftertaste. Smooth mouthfeel, high bitterness. Sort of is defined by white pepper and saw dust, also very bitter.

750 ml bottle shared @ tkrjukoffs CCB Day tasting. Pours oily pitch black with a creamy very dark brown head that quickly dissipates without leaving much trace. Smell is sweet and spicy with cedar, white pepper, roasted malts, bitter chocolate, resin, black pepper, dark roast coffee, mineral, vanilla fudge, burnt caramel, alcohol, sawdust, pine, prunes and straw. Taste is sweet and very bitter with roasted malts, salty liquorice, dark roast coffee, cedar wood, pine, sawdust, orange peal, resinous wood, salty liquorice, bitter chocolate, alcohol, tar, black and white pepper, burnt wood, asphalt and hints of vanilla, burnt caramel and toffee. Mouthfeel is intense, sticky sweet, oily bitter, peppery and full bodied. Finish is slightly sweet and bitter with roasted malts, coffee, bitter chocolate, black pepper, cedar, pine, sawdust, salty liquorice, pine and resin. Harsh but still very good.

Bottle @ Hotelroom after Boulder Strong Ale fest. Pours black with a creamy light brown head. Aroma of hard roasted malts, dark chocolate, wood, spicy. Taste is hard roasted malts, dark chocolate, wood ( cedar ) green tobacco, cinnamon, spicy. Medium body, soft carbonation. Nice at first, but the strong tobacco, spicyness gets to be to much for me. 090312

Bottle in hotel room after Boulder Strong Ale Fest, courtesy of markwise. Thanks Mark! Deep black appearance with a big, dark brown head. Rich cedar woody, deep chocolate malty, a bit spicy, coffee aroma. Big, rich, dark chocolate malty, huge cedar woody, quite spicy, light coffee flavor. At first, this beer is quite enjoyable but the spiciness really starts to become overwhelming after a while.

Bottle at the brewery: Poured a deep thick oily black with a thin brown head. The aroma is cedar, chocolate, and coffee. The taste is like sex in your mouth, very deep dark chocolate with coffee edge. The cedar gives it a soft wood presence that makes it pop to the tongue. I shared this at a Korean home brewers event and it was all the rave!

Entering old rates. 75cl handfilled bottle @ CCB, sampled @ RBWG Orlando 2010.
