Juniper and piney hops build the framework for this bold dark ale. With its assertive bitterness and sweet malt finish, this beer stands tall above the rest.

12 oz can poured. Pours a near black. Darker than I expected this brew to be. Cola fizz head. A thick, chocolatey malt body, a solid roasted constant, with a bitter grassy hop to pair. Bready, toast malt background, and it grows stronger late. I don't get a whole lot of the advertised juniper, if any at all. I'm guessing the toasty malt and bitter hops cover it for my taste. Minutes after, it actually comes through a little, and a bitterness also lingers really late. Uniqye brew here, and very nicely made. Enjoyed this.

Sample at Daily Growler Powell. Brown-black color with a medium thin beige head that dissipates quickly to an outer ring. Stringy lace. Aroma of piney hops, citrus and malt. Medium body with flavors of spruce, citrusy hops and roast malt. The finish is moderately bitter with a piney hop aftertaste. Above average overall.

12 ounce can into tulip glass, best before 4/24/2018. Pours opaque dark brown/black color with a 2 finer fairly dense and rocky khaki head with awesome retention, that reduces to a large cap that lasts. Thick soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of big grapefruit, tangerine, peach, pineapple, passion fruit, mango, melon, lemon zest, citrus peel/rind, light pepper, pine, dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, toasted bread, light smoke/char, herbal, and floral/grassy/roasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of citrus/fruity/pine hops and moderate dark/roast/bready malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big grapefruit, tangerine, peach, pineapple, passion fruit, mango, melon, lemon zest, citrus peel/rind, light pepper, pine, dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, toasted bread, light smoke/char, herbal, and floral/grassy/roasted earthiness. Moderate pine/citrus rind/herbal/grassy/spicy hop and roast/char bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of grapefruit, tangerine, peach, pineapple, passion fruit, mango, melon, lemon zest, citrus peel/rind, light pepper, pine, dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, toasted bread, light smoke/char, and herbal/floral/grassy/roasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/pine hops and moderate dark/roast/bready malt flavors; with an awesome roast/hop bitter/sweet balance; and zero acrid/astringent hop/roast flavors after the finish. Light-moderate increasing dryness from hop/char bitterness. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, creamy/bready/sticky, and lightly chalky/resinous balanced mouthfeel that is great. Zero warming alcohol for 7.5%. Overall this is an awesome black IPA. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/pine hops and moderate dark/roast/bready malt flavors; very smooth and easy to drink with the modestly bitter/charred/drying finish, never overly aggressive. Great mix of juicy and dark/earthy hop complexity; nice balancing dark/roast/bready malt presence, but still feels like an IPA. A very enjoyable offering, and spot on style example.

Can pour into nonic pint glass from The Beer Store, Nashua. Appearance is clear, dark brown/mahogany with tons of sparkle at the sides of the glass, finger-width light brown foamy head with good retention and nice sudsy lacing. Aroma is pine with toasted malt and light juniper, citrus. Taste is rich toasted malts with light chocolate, juniper and pine. Palate is medium bodied with smooth texture, soft carbonation and bittersweet finish as taste. Overall, this fires on all cylinders. A real pleasure to drink.

12 ounce can. Barely translucent brown color with reddish highlights. Thick, bubbly tan head. Roasted malt nose has piney notes. Dark roast flavor hints at chocolate and bitter hops. Notes of dark chocolate, burnt sugar, dried fruit and piney hops. Yeah, that about sums it up.

On tap at Big Hunt, pours a lightly watery dark brown with some spitty, grey head. Nose has pine, soap, toast, malt, cracked grains, lightly vegetal. Flavor follows, malty, bready, toast, some coffee grounds, then pine, soap, dried orange peel. Finishes bitter and dry.

By far the best beer I've tasted from Uinta. Pours on the dark malt goodness, heavy with chocolate and roasty java notes backed up by hints of caramel, raisin, and cherry, yet all offset by a massive swath of piney hops and a brisk, herbal juniper finish. Fades bitter with veins of pumpernickel bread and oodles of hoppy vitriol. So very tasty...Pours brown-black with a thick beige head and endless lacing. Nose seems somewhat subdued, mostly chocolate with pine underneath. Thich, rich, smooth texture makes this pint frighteningly easy to put back. Killer brew.
