Bottle from Domu Birrae. Palafrina Troll 9% a deeper brown than the Castagnale with a sour fruity medicinal nose. Tart, nutty, malty sugar a bit of honey and booze. OK. Kind of disjointed.

Bottle. Nutty nose, a bit acidic, fruits, caramel. Cloudy dark brown color. A bit rough flavor, peaches, caramel, acid, somewhat medicinal in a amateurish homebrew kind of way. I was excited about this, but it let me down. Tasted a bit off.

On tap at the Turbacci Xmas fest nearby Rome-ITALY. Pours dark chestnut skin, dark red reflexes, gassy off white foam which dissipates leaving yeast-like residual traces. Nose: blast of dry fruit, boiled chestnuts, cognac. Mouth: very complex. Alcohol forward, soft fruits, vine brule. Complex and perfect for winter nights. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Zymatore draft version at Maxs Italian Fest. Opaque brown-black. Sour vinous aroma, some mild chocolate. Pinot Noir sour grape flavors, more so than any whiskey. No hop tones to speak of, dark malt wine beer. Some underlying caramel nuttiness gives it balance. Lacks the effervescence of a Belgian, which would have put it over the top. Very unique and enjoyable.

Draft. Muddy brown color, no head. Aroma of spoiled grapefruit juice and mud. Tastes like falling into a mud puddle with your mouth open.

Bottle at Eataly store, Bologna, Italia 26.02.11 Pours dark amber with a hazy white head. This is malty with a touch of sourness on nose. Soft in the mouth, likeable though not stunning. I did get the nuts but they weren’t too overpowering. A7 A3 T7 P3 Ov14 3.4

Bottled. A deep red beer with a thin tan head. The aroma has notes of malt, caramel, and over ripe fruits. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, over ripe fruit - a bit too over ripe for my liking, metal, and caramel soup. The body is thick. Thanks fiulijn for sharing.

14th September 2008. Cloudy brown beer. Reminds me, just a little, of a sourish porter. A little roasty. Sour and dry but also has a vague sweet note in the mid. Okay but this was a beer to drink slowly!
