This traditional saison is brewed using North Carolina grown barley, wheat and rye from Riverbend Malthouse and is open fermented. The beer is then finished with Brettanomyces and bottled. Drink it fresh, or let it age and bring out the funk.

Super hazy golden and orange coloured body with a nice, two to three centimetre tall off-white head. Aroma of super dry malts, a bit of grass, hay, coriander seed, yeast and some light sugars from fruits. Light to Medium-bodied; Assertively dry flavours at first with a big dose of yeast and hay, coupled with some light hops, a bit of light fruits such as peaches and apples and ending with more dry hoppy elements and a dose of grain. Aftertaste shows almost exclusively dry notes with a lot of hay, grass, coriander seed and yeast as part of that package. Interestingly enough, I don't taste any real funk or brett, and only some of the dry and plainish yeast notes. Overall, again, another way overrated beer by XXX (insert over-hyped brewery here), and while it was a fine beer and drinkable, it is a plain saison, no brett, no funk, and nothing special in the slightest. Definitely do not go out of your way to find and/or sample this, unless you are a beer person who loves names. I sampled this sixteen ounce pour on draught at Whole Foods in Pentagon City (Arlington), Virginia on 14-September-2017 for US$5,00 at the end of my driveway, but wouldn't pay any extra premium or have to drive at all for this one.

500ml bottle. Minimally milky, yellow-ish golden colour with average to huge, frothy, fairly lasting, minimally lacing, white head. Funky, bretty, floral-herbal aroma, notes of fresh hay, dill, tarragon. Taste is dry, minimally funky, slightly restricted bretty, fruity, minimally soapy herbal, hints of unripe mirabelle, diluted dill, a floral touch; slightly tart finish. Slightly anaemic, restricted.

Bottle. A lightly hazy golden colored beer with a small, dense, off-white head. Rather funky aroma, with orange, lemon, leather and a peppery hint. Some pale malt notes. It’s full-bodied, quite effervescent and dry, with lots of funky flavors. Lemon, leather, some barnyard and even more fruityness in the flavor. Some pale malts. Lasting finish. A nice and refreshing beer indeed, tasteful too, although not the most complex beer I’ve had. 161105
