Bottle shared at the Commons, big thanks to Fin for gifting me this one, 09/11/14. Extremely dark mahogany brown with a moderate beige swirl and edgework. Nose is very lightly oxidised, tangy dark fruits, spice, tobacco, leather. Taste comprises dark fruit, light charr, earthy cocoa, dates, leather, roasted. Medium + bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Decent enough impy aged considered.

Cask at GBBF. Opaque black beer. Light dry and soft palate. Sweet malt and light chocolate with some repressed dark berry fruits. A little smooth vanilla, then estery bubblegum sweetness. Rich spicy hops toward the finish and spicy bitterness. Complex beer. Tasted twice to get everything out of it.

Bottle from Beers of Europe. Black pour with a tan head. Dark chocolate, dark fruits, dates, licorice and coffee aroma. Rich old nose this one. Very flavoursome indeed. Demerara sugar, coffee, dark chocolate, licorice toffee, molasses. Dry as a bone. Vinous. Long, sweet dry finish. Lovely stuff!

Old bottle at Chrisoโ€™s Fullers-Gales Tasting (thanks Chris!). It pours very dark brown, with a thin tan head. The nose is roasted malt, cocoa, coconut, charcoal, musty, sulphurous hint (due to age?). The taste is charcoal, roasted malt, liquorice, wood, chocolate, caramel and toffee, with a bitter-sweet finish. Medium to full body and fine carbonation. Smooth and well balanced. Perhaps a bit past it, but a classy brew nonetheless.

An old bottle (c. 10 years old) at chriso Vintage Tasting. Pours black-brown with a bubbly, tan head. Musty dark malt aroma - definitely showing some signs of age. Light to medium sweet flavor, aged dark malts, brownies, some leaves. Medium bodied with fine, soft carbonation. Mildly sweet finish, faint roast, dark malts. You can still detect some of this beerโ€™s former glory.

cask at charlies. Pitch dark, smooth light brown head. Aroma of roasted stuff, flowery sour note as wood, syrup. Faint sour dark fruits like raisins. Flavor is dark fruits in wood. complex and very delicate, reminds me more of belgian beer than stout or imp stout or porter. Very complex, super tasty. Dry. Notes of roasted grains. Ends very dry , like a great porter lagered on raisins an oak.

Thanks to Alex! Thick-looking dark brown and slightly muddy. The aroma is quite rich with fruits...and is that diacetyl in the midst of the soy sauce oxidation? Flat. Oily. Lightish flavour leans towards milk chocolate, not much fruit. Slick, flat, more like an old ale really, but you canโ€™t argue with an old school example.
