Cherry saison is concurrent with the best of summer weather. The days are long and warm, and the spring blossoms have gracefully turned to plump drupes. Much in the same way, our Imperial Cherry Saison undergoes subtle but noticable changes while cruising from kettle to bright tank. Like the sun ripening fruit, a pit stop makes this beer better. Cherry Saison is aged with French Oak staves, imparting overtones of spice and balancing the natural sweetness of the cherries. Cherry Saison is the first in this series to incorporate oak aging. Enjoy it as a dessert beer, or tilt it back while sitting under a shady tree on a warm summer afternoon.

Draft at waterfront manhattan. Very good saison, not much of a cherry taste though. Pretty good.

aroma is bready and quite oaky, with next to no cherries. some nice hops in the flavour with more oak, really this is neither a cherry flavoured beer nor a saison. this beer to me is an oak aged belgian ale.

From Sept 2008

I got this bottle in a trade with jwc215. Thanks Joe!

This beer pours a bright and clear yellow gold with a small head of foam. The foam quickly disappears as does the lacing that I got early in the session. The last pour brought some hazy goodness which gets points for me but the way the foam disappears so quickly is a downer.

The smell has notes of vanilla, citrus, pretty strong cherry, some earthiness, and some alcohol.

The taste brings some good cherry flavour to the forefront with vanilla, earthy/bready malt tones and some citric tartness. Further into the session, I'm starting to notice a sweetness, from candy sugar?, that works pretty well with the other flavours. I also notice the alcohol as it's giving me some warming during and after the swallow. 1 bottle of this at a sitting will definitely do it for me.

The mouthfeel just creeps over into medium territory, the carbonation is on the light side, and it finishes with a slight bitterness and a very light horse blanket note.

Bottom line: This is a pretty tasty Saison but I think I'd prefer my Saisons without a particular fruit that dominates....it, for me, detracts from what I enjoy in the style.

22 ounce bottle into tulip, no bottling date. This could be pretty old since it is retired now. Pours extremely hazy orange amber color with a fairly dense 2 finger off white head with good retention; that reduces to a thin lacing cap that lasts. Fair amount of lacing clings to the glass as well. Aromas of big tart cherries, apple, lemon zest, grass, candi sugar, spices, bread, and a bit of funkiness as well. Surprisingly nice aromas with good strength and balance. I like my saisons funky. Taste of big bread, pepper, spices, banana, wood, candi sugar, cherry, and some tart graininess in the back. No bitterness; with lingering notes of tart cherry, pepper, bread, and spices on the finish for a bit. The wheat malt is definitely more noticeable on the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a fairly creamy and slightly syrupy mouthfeel. Alcohol is well hidden with only a warming on the finish noticed. Fairly smooth drinking, but this is still quite a sipper. This is not cloying surprisingly, but i would have liked a better flavor balance. A little difficult to drink at times because of the flavor balance. Overall a fairly enjoyable saison, but it needed better flavor balance with a bit more cherry in the taste. Overall I say it was worth a try.

28/07/2011 1pt 6 Fl. Oz. bottle @ Klaas' place (2011-354) Thanks to Klaas for sharing the bottle!

Clear orange beer, small creamy head, unstable and adhesive. Aroma: very dirty first impression, stale and musty, some alcohol. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: sour start, then rotten fruit, stale, like beer gone bad. Also bitter almonds (or the stone/pit of a peach if you want) are noticeable. Dry aftertaste with lots of sour notes and a chemical touch. An experiment gone bad, if you ask me.
