Our Black Wheat arrives to relieve the bleak bore of Wisconsin's winter. Rich and chewy this bottle conditioned weiss is bursting with Midwestern wheat, oats, rye and finished by malted barley. This style is a rare gem even in the Black Forests of Bavaria. We brew it now as an accompaniment to meaty feasts or to sip near a roaring fire.

Expect this beer to pour the deepest black body topped by an opulent head of lip smacking foam. Roasted chocolate and toasted caramel notes brim over the top. Lavish spice aromas of clove and cinnamon are promoted naturally by the yeast we import especially for this most individual of brews. While some find comfort in a familiar glass, this brew will satisfy the bold explorer who dares to be...

Bottle: Poured a hazy dark brown color dunkel with a large foamy head with OK retention and some lacing. Aroma consists of caramelized malt with light notes of cloves and some residual sugar. Taste is also an enjoyable mix between a solid caramel malt backbone with nice ester of cloves and light banana bread with a well balance sweet finish. Body is quite full with good carbonation. Well brewed though more ester originating from the yeast strain could have provided further enjoyment.

Weak molasses and soy sauce aroma. Cloudy dark brown, thick tan head with poor retention. Medium body, bloody mouthfeel. Charred wheat flavor initially with a burst of marshmallow and molasses at midpalate. Faint bark and grass finish. Banana notes appear upon quaffing. Good balance and nice transitions. A nice beer, but perhaps a bit overhyped.

Bottle thanks to Brigadier. Pours with a creamy tan head and a black body. Aroma is strong of wheat even without going anywhere near the beer. Closer inspection reveals coffee, wheat, caramel, sharp clove, banana esters, chocolate and light smoke. Taste is spicy and estery with wheat and chocolate. A touch of leather as well. Decently dry. Coffee. Brimming with carbonation, creamy. Tons of clove in the finish. Dan Carey is the king of wheat beers!

Bottle from allendodd. Thanks man! Pours a very dark ruby with a large tan head. Aromas of clove and dark roast grain. Medium body with mildly frothy carbonation. Flavor is burnt malt, chocolate, and clove, or perhaps cinnamon. Subtle. Maybe a touch of coffee with time. Finishes towards dry and chocolate. Quite different and quite tasty.
