(Gravicask at GBBF, London Earl’s Court, 6 Aug 2009) Dark brown colour, almost black. Brief, beige head. Roasted, malty nose with notes of coffee and chocolate. Roasted, malty taste with coffee, dark chocolate, toffee, a touch of liquorice and citrussy hops in the finish. More than medium body, fairly sweet. Very nice and tasty porter.

Cask (GBBF 2009) Black in colour. Coffee aroma with a hint of alcohol. Coffee in the taste with a slightly sour hint. Tasty, but a bit thin.

Cask@GBBF2009. Pitch black colour, small brown head. Aroma is wooden, nutty, roasted malts, some smoked notes as well as coffee. Flavour is roasted malts, some smoked wood as well as quite ashy finish. Also a lot of liquorice.

Cask@GBBF 2009. Dark, almost opaque brown color, small steady tan head. Black coffee and licorice in the nose. Lots of black coffee, licorice and dark malts. Very enjoyable with long lingering roastyness in the aftertaste. Dry and balanced. (8/4/8/4/16 4.0)
Re-rate, Tap @brewpub
Dark brown color, small beige head. Chocolaty, caramelly aroma. Medium-bodied. Coffee, chocolate, light toasted bitterness in the finish. Clean - maybe too clean, uninspiring. (7/4/6/2/11 3.0)

A deep dark brownish porter with red hues and a thick moka head. A nice mix of chocolate and hops, nice. In mouth, a classy hoppy porter with powdery chocolate. On tap at brewpub Oct. 11 2008.

Dark brown. Cocoa and fudge aroma with toastiness. Starts with a nice chocolate/coffee note but gets burnt, tannic and astringent late. Has a full body and finishes dry, but it’s still a bit harsh.

Sample from tap at the brewpub. Pours dark brown with an amber note with a light brown head. Dark roasted, coffee like malt notes. Coffee heavy malt flavour. Good long lasting bitter finish.

2004 draught @ the brewery. My thoughts are near motelpogo’s on this one. Solid and pretty good, if somewhat unoriginal and uninspiring. But hey, at least it’s drinkable. Toffee, some dark rooty/licorice and definitely a good dose of roasty/coffee flavored black malt. Dark brownish black, transluscent with a small light beige head. Lightly sweet, toasted malt and coffee nose. Medium to medium full body. Body lacks any real chewiness however and seems overly dry and a bit thin on the end as it warms.

Well balanced coffee and dark chocolate notes with a lingering hoppy finish that leaves a rounded dark chocolate tastes on the tounge
