12 ounce bottle into pint glass, no bottle dating. Pours crystal clear deep reddish brown color with a 1 finger dense light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass, with some moderate streaming carbonation. Aromas of caramel, raisin, prune, toast, toffee, molasses, brown bread, chocolate, light roast, floral, light nuttiness, and toasted earthiness. Nice aromas with good balance and complexity of dark malt notes with moderate fruitiness; and good strength. Taste of caramel, raisin, toast, toffee, brown bread, chocolate, light roast, floral, light nuttiness, and toasted earthiness. Lingering notes of caramel, toast, toffee, raisin, chocolate, brown bread, light nuttiness, and toasted earthiness on the finish for a bit. Nice balance and complexity of dark/bready malt flavors; with a solid amount of robustness and zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Light-medium carbonation and medium bodied; with a creamy and lightly slick mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a nice brown ale. Good balance and complexity of dark/bready malt flavors; and very smooth to drink. A pleasantly enjoyable offering.

This nut brown poured a deep black colour with a nice brown, frothy head. Scents include coffee, chocolate, caramel and a little licorice. First sip was smooth and a little watery but flavourful. Flavours of licorice, coffee and roasted caramel. Finish is roasty and smooth.

12 oz bottle that was part of the Winter 2012 World Market 9 pack, courtesy of my in-laws. The pour is mostly clear brown with slight ruby highlights and a smallish tan head that falls quick. The aroma is some roast, some nuttiness, and a bit of harsh earthiness. The taste is roast nutty malt, along with a bit of char earth, and then a bit of sharpness in the back. The palate is medium to light bodied, average, somewhat harsh carbonation and the sharp char finish. Decent flavor, though not all that clean.

Bottle @ home, picked up at Argonaut Denver. Pours a deep brown appearance with a brown head. A bit tangy, buttery caramel malty, nutty, toasty aroma. Roasty malty, caramel, chewy nutty, a touch fruity flavor. A bit watery. Bleh.

Location: 12 oz bottle from State Line, 11/25/12

Aroma: The nose is roasted malts, bread, nuts, and some chocolate notes as well
Appearance: It pours a dark brown color with a slight red hue, and a small beige head
Flavor: The taste is fairly malty as well, a little bit sweet, fairly roasty, and a with a light bitterness
Palate: The body is medium, it feels a little creamy, with a soft carbonation, and a mildly dry finish
Overall Impression: This one is one of those "What the hell, I've never rated this?" beers for me. I know I have had this one plenty of times, but some how it has escaped rating until now. Anyway, this one is fine, it hits the marks for drinkability, but it really is nothing special.

12 oz. bottle, pours a dark brown with a small beige head. Aroma of sweet candied dried fruits, nuts, sweet dark malts, and chocolate cake. Flavour is less full, with toasted nuts, muted dried fruits, roasted dark malts and some faint molasses. Quite easy to drink, but also a rather muting flavour profile - but maybe my taste buds have been scorched off after so many big beers. Solid, but unmemorable.

12 oz bottle into the HeBrew Jewbelation 15 glass provided with this Holiday sampler. Pours deep brown with reddish tints. Has a small beige head that falls into a tiny ring way too quick. Not very pretty. Aroma is yeasty dough, fresh baked bread, caramel. Taste is sweet and nutty, turns lightly tart mid-swallow and finishes just slightly bitter. Carbonation is average and the body is light to medium. A great-tasting beer with a hideous appearance.

Christmas gift. Pours root beer brown. Tastes of more root beer, pine, nuts, caramel, and malt. Nice carbonation and medium bodied. I wouldn’t call it all that bold but enjoyable

12oz bottle from Pick’s poured into a shaker. Pours an opaque brown with a small bit of light tan head. Slight aroma of caramel and burnt coffee. Taste is lightly bitter. Nice light coffee taste. Light bodied with a thin texture. Lively carbonation and not much of a finish. Overall, not too bad. I’ll drink this one but I won’t be buying it again.
