One noteworthy difference is the higher alcohol by volume of Baltic Thunder, 8.5% compared to Heavyweight's, which weighed in at 8%.

Pours a crystal clear deep, deep red with a taupe head that looks creamy and lingers. Massive malt, caramel and chocolate aroma. Coffee notes as well. Flavor of chewy coffee and chocolate. Dark fruit is noticeable. Great malt. Medium mouthfeel with slick finish. Nice carbonation.

From a 650ml bottle on 24/10/2011. Pours a very dark amber, with next to no head. Has an aroma of dark sugar, toffee malt and golden syrup. This is a sweet one, with heaps of milk chocolate, honey, caramel and toffee, which is balanced by just enough roasty bitterness. An enjoyable baltic for those with a sweet tooth.

Bottle, 14C. Mahogany with a light tan head. Aroma of toffee, chocolate, grass. Silky mouthfeel. Chocolate, toffee, prunes, light roasted notes, grassy and herbal bitterness dries out the sweetness. Would have guessed dunkel bock.

RBESG Sheffield 2009 Grand Tasting @ the Harlequin Reddish Brown with a small beige head. Medium body. Aroma of sweet malt, caramel, wood and burnt sugar. Sweet malty taste, with toffee and ripe fruit. Just a slight touch of bitterness in the finish.

22 oz. bottle, split with Matts_Property, pours reddish dark brown with minimal head. Aroma of sweet roasted malt, caramel and candied fruits. Flavour is semi-sweet with caramel and roasted malt, a little booze and liqueur qualities. Solid.

Pour is a black with a very small tan head. Aroma is an ok chocolate and coffee. Flavor is a nice roasted malt with some chocolate malts with a bit of leather and earthyness. Finish has some bitterness from the hops and a decent black bread. This is not my fav style of porter but this is prob the best one of this style I have had.

22oz Bomber into a snifter. Pours a solid brown with a thin white head that didn’t last but had good lace with what was there. Light aroma of, toffee, coffee, some roasted malt. Flavor is much the same but thin with not much carbonation. Body is way lighter then I was expecting. The alcohol at the end hurts the flavors as well. I guess putting this in the cellar may help it. I wouldn’t drink a young bottle of this again. A bit of a let down.

22oz Best by Dec 31, 2008 Sampled 09/04/2009 So its past the best by date, but its a Baltic Porter so it should be ok. Pours a dark brown with deep ruby highlights when held to light. Smallish bubbly beige head recedes but never really dissipates completely. Smells rather uninspiring. I pick up some toffee, slight cherries, and some alcohol. Taste is chocolate and toffee with a lingering roast hop bite and alcohol burn in the finish. Moderate carbonation, medium body, creamy mouthfeel. Not offensive, but uninspiring. I thought it was okay, but I’ve had better Baltic porters. Best by 01/07/2012 Sampled 10/21/2011 Pours a solid dark brown color with a deep ruby highlights and a small tightly bubbled tan head that shows poor retention. Smells of chocolate, toffee, caramel, cherries, ethanol. Taste is caramel and toffee up front. Chocolate and fruit come out midway but give way to a bit of warming heat and a long lingering caramel toffee on the palette. Fairly dry finish is a bit surprising. Medium to thick body, light level of carbonation, sweet creamy mouthfeel. I think I enjoyed this much more this time around. I guess fresher is better with this brew.

Looks like flat Diet Coke, but tastes divine. There is carbonation, but it hides beneath the black depths of this pint. Smells of molasses, chocolate, and malt, with a boozy undertone that assures you this bomber could be trouble. And it tastes awesome, with a soul that screams Raisinette-flavored coffee, yet roasty and bitter enough to easily qualify this brew as an Imperial Stout. Potent alcohol kick on the finish is rather necessary, to keep you from quickly slurping down the goodness. The fade grows increasingly prickly, though, suggesting this bottle could use a little aging. (2/18/09)

Location: 22 oz bottle from Binny's Beverage Depot (Naperville), 11/28/10

Aroma: The nose has some roasted malts, dark fruits, earth, wood, and a touch of smoke
Appearance: It pours a dark brown color into the glass with a very thin light brown head
Flavor: The taste is roasted and malty, some sweetness, dark chocolate bitterness in the finish
Palate: The body is medium, somewhat creamy, the carbonation is fairly low, and it is quite drinkable
Overall Impression: I found this to be a very solid Baltic Porter. It has a nice combination of malty flavors, and just enough bitterness to round it out. I've had this bottle for about 6 months, and I tend to feel that it is right in its prime at this point. A well-rounded and enjoyable beer. The alcohol is also very well-hidden considering the strength of this one. Solid stuff for sure.
