Bottle. Pours a slightly hazy orange color with a small off-white head. Has a sweetish malty fruity aroma with some woody hints. Fruity malty smooth oaky caramel flavor with some hints of chocolate. Has a sweetish malty and fruity oaky finish with a long warming aftertaste with hints of the barrel.

375 ml bottle, brewed spring 2007 bottled aug 2008 best before october 2013. Limited collection 629 on bottle. Pour is hazed orange golden yellow with a smallish slightly off white head. Nice full lacing. Aroma of malt, hazelnut mild caramel, fair amount of cardboard coming through. Fresher woody oak coming through in the back. Taste is caramel, flinty earthiness, sharp orange citrus, straw grass, black pepper - just a bunch going on. Nice melding of flavors. As it warms, some clove and licorice comes out a bit. Palate is medium to heavy, mouth coating long lingering finish. Touch of cardboard very late in the finish. Nice one, thanks Tom and Craig.

Bottle, Carringtons, Chorlton. Poured a hazy, darkish orange tinged bronze colour with a fluffy good sized off white head. Aroma was woody sweet, maybe a bit of smokiness, marzipan, fragrant and floral summer fruit. Niiice. Sherry like qualities certainly evident. Slid down shy of the 11 percent. Creamy and smooth, with some spiciness and a gently warming boozy hit. Possibly my least favourite of this quiver - the madeira wins hands down, but a very fine effort nonetheless.

Bottle that I picked up at Stirchley Wines, B’ham, Apr 09 shared with dad 16-05-09 Pours deep reddy amber, again this maybe moving towards copper in colour with off white head, in the Loz inspired ’Batcave’ type light of our living room this beer looks richer in colour than the other two, in fact when I looked again in the kitchen this looked quite stunning in the glass. Aroma is warming boozey soaked oakiness, a little nutty and rich dark sugary with the alcohol leaping off in wafts. The sherry is very much present in this but being no expert in the world of sherry I would be hard pressed to know whether it was a brown bag quality Tudor Rose or Emva Cream or a truly quality effort which I’m sure that it is, whatever It is I like it. The oaky vanilla creaminess detected in the Madeira aged version is also here, its warming, richer, softer and another little step up from the Madeira. I wish I had another one of these to age but I could only get duplicates of the two other versions. A7 A5 F8 P4 Ov15 3.9

Bottle @ Floosmoor pre DLD ... Ruby ... sweet fruity little spice and toffee ... juicy an sweet almost light and fluffy ... little grape ... this didnt hold up to some of the other raritys... one to retry. bottle at home ... 3.7 Nov 2014 ... copper ... thin white lacing ... soft sweet fruits ... sherbert fruits ... soft blackcurrant nose... long soft fruits... juicy fruits ... oily orange fruits ... soft fruit ... light sherry ... lightest hint of licorice ... juicy fruits .. def the best 4.1

Bottle. Cloudy but vibrant bronze beer with a strong head. The aroma is warmingly spiced, and the flavour is deeply spiced, vinous, slightly aniseed and strongly bitter. Overall a very nice complex beer.

Bottle. Amber beer with a small white head. Light malt aroma with light toffee. Malt flavor with summer/tropical fruits and brown sugar. Medium-plus bodied. Malt and sherry lingers with light summer fruits. Slightly dry.

Served from the bottle at the Thornbridge tasting at The Rake. OK I have 2 ratings here and a third under the regular Alliance as we tasted the 3 side by side. The score of the PX barrel version and then one for the Madeira barrel version which is 4.0/5.0. The aroma on the PX is the best of the 3 beers. Crystallised tangerine fruit. Sherry aromas really come through. Just the best aroma. Just my favourite. It’s like sherry. And I love sherry, all the forms but especially the sweeter end. It reminded me of aged JW Lees Harvest Ale, sherry oloroso type aromas and flavours. It is impeccable. Thanks to Kelly and Stef for sharing these. 4.6/5. The Madeira has a bit more coconut on the aroma. Warming. Good again. Just that next to the PX it didn’t stand much of a chance.

37.5 cL bottle, courtesy of Phil_L. Pours clear and golden orange with a white head. Aroma is smooth fruity and malty. Smooth flavoured with marmelade sweetness and loads of fruity notes going on. Lingering sweet caramel and fruity finish with a nice set of smooth yeasty phenols on the back of the nose.
