This 5.2% black IPA burns the line between an American IPA and a stout, with malt and hops firing on all cylinders, in psychotic synchronicity. Roasty, chocolate and coffee notes duke it out with citrus, mango and pine. Pithy bitterness plays off roasty dryness. Light bodied, but with the intensity of a beer twice its size.
Hopped with Simcoe, Amarillo and Citra, Arcade Nation showcases the incredible complexity of three of our all-time favourite hops. The twisting flavours change so fast, you’ll need the reactions of a hardened retro gamer to keep up with them.

On tap at BrewDog Shepherds Bush, black beer lasting tan head. Malty black ipa. Yes some hop yes some dark burnt malt. Hasn’t black ipa jumped the shark yet? I just don’t see the point. Still. OK burnt malt hoppy stout. Some chocolate.

Keg at BD Sheps Bush, 21/01/16. Extremely dark mahogany brown with a well appointed khaki cap that retains well. Nose is liquorice, treacle toffee, tea leaves, pine needle, earthy hop, tar, herbal strokes, light peppery spice. Taste comprises pine, hop dusting, straw, light red berry strokes, faint charr, more tea leaves. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close peppered with earthy hop bitterness. Solid CDA, clean and easy drinking, style boxes well ticked.

Medium sweet flavor with some lightly toasted, oily pine, light coffee, mellow roast, cocoa, rindy orange, grapefruit. Medium bodied, smooth, with fine to average carbonation. Lightly resinous and roasty on the finish, with further notes of cocoa, rind, grapefruit. A solid CDA all around.

330ml bottle from the Brewdog online shop. Pours opaque dark brown with a short-lived off-white head. Aromas of pine, citrus, mango. Taste is bitter tropical fruit, light roast. Thin finish. Is this the re-badged prototype by any chance, Margaret?

Bottle from BrewDog Online. It pours jet black with a decent tan head. The nose is bitter - sweet, rich roasted malts, juicy, orange sherbet, mango puree, passion fruit and Terry’s chocolate orange. The taste is bitter, rich roast, earth, umami, liquorice, burnt toast, liquorice, grapefruit, burnt pine and earth with a dry finish. Medium body and moderate, prickly carbonation. The aroma in particular stands out. Decent.
