After two tempestuous months aging aboard BrewDog founder James Watt’s mackerel trawler on the North Atlantic, Atlantic IPA will be the first commercially available, genuine sea-aged IPA in two centuries - a project which is typical of the scale, audacity and boldness characteristic of BrewDog in its quest to take the UK beer industry by storm.

Bottle at home, thanks to an IP trade with Christian, 06/10/14. Lightly hazed amber with a decent beige covering. Nose is caramel, light spice, sherry notes, light tropical fruit tones, earthy malt. Taste comprises caramel malt, sweet tones, faint booze, lick of honey, light oxidisation but not overly unplesant, dark orange marmalade rinds. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, sweet laced bitterness in the close. Ok, drinkable enough considering the age.

Bottle sampled in 2010. Almost clear golden body with a nice off-white head. Aroma has chocolate malt and mild oak. Flavor is quite rich malty, fruity, caramel and a pleasant more subdued bitterness. Nice body and soft in aftertaste. Not very typical IPA but I find it somehow complex and pleasant.

7th September 2009
Clear darkish amber beer. Decent creamy head. Smooth and softish palate, slightly dry. Soft malt, very well balanced with a little light hop. Finishes soft and dry with more malt. Very refined IPA.

Bottle at some expense from Utobeer a while back. It pours clear orange amber, with a decent white head. The nose is quite sweet actually - caramel, raisin, wood and resin. The taste is caramel, toffee, very woody, biscuit, dried fruits, spice, hint of citrus pith and some alcohol warmth, with a bitter-sweet finish. Medium body and a low-moderate carbonation. I imagine this was a lot more vibrant and hoppy to begin with, but it actually still drinks pretty well.

Bottle @ RBESG 2009 Harlequin, Sheffield , and also bottle at home: Amber colored with average off-white head. Heavily hoppy aroma and so is the taste but backed by a strong sweet malty background. Bitter finish

Bottle. Dark brownish/orange with a large white head. A lot of malt in both the aroma and taste, not that hoppy. I think that the bottle was on the old side. Still quite good but not that fresh anymore.

330ml bottle @ Kaunis Kampela, Helsinki

Pours dark orange with a tiny head. Aroma is woody and has hints of oak. Taste is malty with woody and oaky notes and hints of vanilla. Smooth, salty finish. Not your typical IPA, but a nice beer nevertheless.
