Bottle @ RBESG Grand tasting 2009 as Elveden Arctic Ale. Deep dark brown color. Malty aroma with hints of balsamic vinegar. balsamic vinegar flavor, sour with notes of citrus. I dont think that the sourness was intended but it works.

Bottle that I picked up at Bacchanalia, Cambridge consumed 26-06-09 Pours as black as yer ’at with a beige head looks sticky and heavy, coating the glass with an oily coating. Aroma is quite strangely Bavarian smoked processed cheese, both Loz and I got this. Taste is smoky, a little sour, some molassess, plenty of liquorice. Its pretty decent stuff albeit rather strange. Bottle from Pembury Tavern, London (I guess it was the last)
It pours a very dark brown color, with almost no head. The aroma (with caramel) and the flavor (caramel too, some chocolate) would describe a quite good Old Ale; but with the age also a light sourness found its way.

275ml bottle from Pig’s Ear, batch ES01 expire date Jan 2007. Black colour, thin tan head. Intense aroma of sour liquorice and brown sugar/malt with a dose of hops as well. Pretty sour in mouth. This is a real experience. Not sure that I am overly fond of it. Very syrupy malt. Some chocolate throughout. The sour fruit is damsony. Bit of tobacco. Chewy in mouth. Very sour dark cherries. Bit of plastic also on the end of the sourness. It certainly stops you worrying about anything. I started out not really caring for it, but as I got used to it, I kinda warmed to it. To be honest the alcohol is not too noticeable, apart from the big smile that ends up on your face at the end.

A pitch black beer with a thin brown head. The aroma is sweet with strong notes of prunes and wood, but also light soy sauce notes. The flavor is like acidic prune juice with a woody note. The end is very dry and woody. Reminds me of Sam Adams Triple Bock. Too acidic in the flavor for me.

(Bottle 37,5 cl) Comes as "Elveden Arctic Ale". Pours completely black and opaque, pretty much no head and almost flat. Complex aroma with lots of roasted malt and raisins. Medium body, very soft mouthfeel and vinous, acidic notes with a distinct wooden touch. Again some raisiny flavours. Not much bitterness. A complex and interesting brew with a great personality. 140606
