Big as its bite, this Belgian Tripel is off the leash and running wild. Not your average house dog. Domesticated it is not.

Sampled at Dunbar Liquor Boutique, pours a golden orange. Aroma of apple, sweetness and sweet citrus. Flavour is syrupy, apple and citrus, with a light mouthful - alcohol is hidden. Not too impressive.

Bottle: Poured a deep bright orangey color ale with a a large foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of grossly sweet malt with cough-syrup ester is not the most interesting. Taste is also quite gross with too much fake sweet ester and some overpowered sugar. Body is about average with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol. This is one of the worst tripel I have tried – way too much sweetness and not spicy yeast or fruity ester.

Blind tasting at Papsø’s
Hazy golden color. Very simple beer, with light aroma, a bit fruity (apricots), light flavor, almost a touch of wheat, dry at the end. Poor.

Bottled. A hazy golden beer with a lazing beige head. The aroma is sweet malty combined with notes of fruit and hints of dust. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, dusty hops, and fruit, leading to a dry finish.

Bottle 65 cl. Courtesy of fiulijn. Slightly hazy golden with an off-white head. Sweetish aroma of fruit and a little yeast. Medium-bodied, fruity and yeasty. Has a discreet tartness - rather than bitterness - in the finish. 120609

From bottle, blind #33. Pours cloudy orange with a collapsing white head. Mild grapefruity to light peachy aroma. Dry fruity, mild acidic. Bitter and hoppy flavoured finish. Simple and light fruity hoppy.

Hazy dull beige-tan colour. Seedy, nutty aroma like sesame oil, sunflower seeds and peanuts put together with juice from a can of pineapples and an overripe pear. I wish I was making that up. Flavourwise, this is sweeter and simpler than the aroma with guava and pear esters alongside candyish pale malts. Quite flowery, hints of bubblegum...both typical of an underattenuated strong Belgian. This is way too sweet...tripel is supposed to be yeast first, hops second and malt third. I’d forgive it if I liked the taste, but this kind of cloying doesn’t work with me. Back to the hops, please!

Bottle. Wooden minerally aroma. Hazy amber, embarrasingly noexistent head. Apple, pear, citrus, ethanolic, somewhat fishy notes. Dry fruity finish is pleasant enough. Oily mouthfeel, no chewyness though.
