Cask: Special.
Brewed for JDW beer festival. First brewed 2009, brewed again 2025
This beer is a variation on this brewery’s award-winning stout, brewed exclusively for this JDW beer festival. The roast barley and Maris Otter pale malt create a huge amount of rich body, while generous hopping creates a bitter edge, superbly complemented by the sweetness from the inclusion of chocolate and vanilla.
Hops used: Northdown

Hand pulled half of a pint in my local Spoons on 9th October 2025. The last of 7 festival beers tried on the night. Dark brown body, beige crust. Very pleasant Stout, malty, rich and laden with a vanilla undertone within it's chocolate flavour. Nice!

Wetherspoon 2025 Autumn Beer Festival. Ale#6 of 26 untried possibilities at the fest. Not quite black, there's lots of vanilla in this one, in both aroma and taste, transfering as marshmallow in taste, and chocolate heavy in aftertaste, but a slightly boozy aroma.

Cask at Moon under Water, Wolverhampton. Pours a very dark reddish-brown with a medium sized frothy tan head and good lacing. There’s vanilla, marshmallow and malts in the aroma. In the mouth it is quite sweet, smooth and with a creamy texture. Vanilla to the fore again in the flavour plus roast malts and cola. A little sharpness and some chocolate come later leading to a slightly bitter finish. This is quite nice.

Opauqe black beer. Sweet vanilla nose. Airy beer - very light and soft and very low carbonation. Some sourness and a touch of smoke make for an interesting contrast to the vanilla sweetness. The chocolate is subtle but definitely there. Touches of red fruit at the back of the tongue before a smoky bitter dry finish. Quite a complex beer!

Cask (handpump) @ JDW, Edinbourgh Airport Landside, Edinburgh, Scotland.Clear dark brown color with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly diminishing, beige head. Aroma is heavy malty, chocolate, dusty, vanilla, cheap artificial vanilla. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and moderate harsh cheap vanilla bitter with a long duration. I was not able to drink this, it is way over powered and very very artificial ;o(( Body is medium, texture is oily to watery, carbonation is soft to flat. [20090413]
