Amber in colour, with its full-bodied, nutty, malty flavour balanced by delicate hop bitterness brought on by the Willamette and Northern Brewer hops. A perfect beer to keep out the winter chill.

(Cask at Penderel’s Oak JDW, Holborn, London, 23 Nov 2016) Golden amber colour with creamy, off-white head. Malty, hoppy nose with dried fruit, some caramel and earthy hops. Malty, slightly fruity taste with notes of dried fruit, crystal malt, some fruit salad and a balanced earthy bitterness in the finish. Well balanced and tasty bitter. Quite nice.

Hand-pulled cask pint in my local Wetherspoons on 7th Jan 2015. Mid-brown and clear, on top an off-white head that had a creamy nature in texture. Mild malty nose with a mini spiced hint. The taste followed the aroma with similar flavours as the smells, malts and spice notes. Semi-sweet feel to the brew, but not flavoursome or interesting really.

On cask at the William Stead in Darlington. Appearance - clear copper with a nod towards red. Thin head. Nose - toffee and spiced biscuit. Taste - red fruits and spice biscuits again. Palate - light to medium bodied with a creamy yet tangy texture and a fairly good finish. Overall - a solid ale. Quite interesting.

Cask 2011: Fruchtig-malziger Geruch, cremiger Schaum.

Deep golden colour, edging towards ruby. Has a clean taste but little flavour, although a sweet winter warming fruit aroma. No head.

[Cask at the Hope Tap (JDW), Reading.] Gold with a thin cream head; citrus and pepper aromas; light lemon flavour with warming spices - pepper, cinnamon and ginger; grassy bitter finish. Decent but not outstanding.
