Founded in 1805 by Wilhelm Sester, the brewery had been located in Ehrenfeld since 1917. In 1928 the business was expanded to include another site. Initially mainly "Kristall" and pils as well as the so-called Kölsch Alt were produced there. At the height of the brewery in the 1970s, an annual output of over 20,000 hl was achieved. In 1993 the Sester descendants sold the trademark and brewing rights to Brau und Brunnen AG (today part of the Radeberger Group).

Bottle in Cologne. Deep gold with a tall head. Malty nose, estery, honey, orange, bubble gum, apples. Flavor is rather sweet and malty with apples and honey. A bit too heavy and estery for a kolsch, imo.

500ml bottle into glass. Bought from a kiosk at Barbarossaplatz, Cologne. Crystal clear golden amber beer with fluffy white head. Light carbonation. Sweet malty nose. Effervescent in the mouth. Lightly bitter taste turns to malt in the finish. Some sourness right at the end. Another easy-drinking Kolsch!

Sampled from 0.5 l bottle from local ’trinkgut’, best before February 2018. Clear, golden yellow with a medium large, frothy, slowly diminishing, white head. Sweetish, slightly grassy aroma of grains and some straw. Sweetish, quite grassy taste of grains, straw and some honeyish notes, followed by a short, moderately bitter, rather grassy and slightly dry finish. Medium body, slightly effervescent mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Okay!

0.5l bottle. Clear golden body with no head. Restrained aroma with notes of grains, metal and some floral hops. Taste of bread, grains, hay and floral hops. Not the best kölsch I’ve ever had, but drinkable for sure.
