This award winning doppelbock (8.2% alcohol by volume) lager is brewed with a generous supply of Munich, carapils, caramel and chocolate malts and is fermented with Bavarian lager yeast. The resulting caramel sweetness and rich mouthfeel are complimented by the mild bittering of German Hallertau hops.

Overall Impression: Nice flavor on this beer, enjoyed it, definitely taste some caramel, The lack of bubbles/head on this one are a little unexpected, but all in all had a nice taste to it.

Pour is a dark brown with a thin tan head. Aroma is a nice mix of brown sugar and dark fruit. Flavor is again lots of brown sugar with some plum and molasses. Best in show by this brewer by far and may even be better than the oaked version.

Quickly descending head and muddy brown body. Dark fruit and sugar aroma. Really sweet. Nice finish. Sugary malts. Middle of the beer is good. Roasted malts. Easy to drink for a doppelbock.

courtesy of gillard. Pours copper with beige head. Aroma of oak without the usual Tommy Knocker maple flavors. Taste is fruity (banana bread) with spices (almost peppery) and oak. Mouthfeel and after taste have this lingering spiciness.

Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a dark red-chestnut color with a small medium sized tan head. The aroma was sour, tangy, malty and lightly vegetal and lightly fruity. Rather complex on the nose. The flavor was tangy, very very malty and had touches of molasses, caramel, ripe fruity and a long tangy sweet malty finish. The mouthfeel was thick and smooth. Excellent.

Bottle at GBBF08. Rough hop aroma. Caramelly flavour, distinct hops. A little sweet, but quite alcoholic. Burns my throat a bit.

Bottle. Pours the color of a slightly tarnished penny with a minimal head and aromas that are heavy with earthy and caramelly malts. Almost a smokiness to it with some fruit jam. Flavor is cloying... overly sweet maple syrup malt with little else to balance things out. Blech!
