Double the malt, double the hops, and double the flavor of the original Rye Pale Ale recipe. (Hence the name Rye Squared.) With its mammoth hop aroma, bitterness and flavor, this beer is not for the faint at heart. The Rye Squared clocks in at a hefty 8.5% ABV so double your pleasure and double your fun because Terrapin went a little crazy with this one!
The first keg of Rye Squared went on tap at Tasty World in Athens on Monday April 25th 2005. A special thank you goes out to the newly formed Terrapin Keg Killers. We were told that Tasty World would put the Rye Squared on as soon as they finished off a keg of a "Select" beer they had on tap. When the Terrapin Keg Killers heard about this they went to Tasty world and finished off that other keg in record time. By 10pm on Monday they were enjoying the fruits of their labor when the first ever Rye Squared keg went online.
Malt: 2-row pale, Munich, Malted Rye, Bisuit Malt, Honey Malt.
Hops: Amarillo, Cascade, East Kent Goldings, Fuggle, Magnum

really nice dipa from a brewer that im just beginning to experience. floral and grapefruit galore, pretty hoppy but with a nice malt balance that makes it just east enough to not be too west coast.

Sampled on draft at Smokin’ Joe’s in Pittsburgh PA this beer poured a dark orange-amber color with a medium sized beige head that lingered. The aroma was veryrich, strong and sweet with copious notes of pine, pineapple and grapefruit. The flavor was sweet strong pineapple and grapefruit with notes of sweet malt, pears, spicy rye and pepper. The finish was sweet and fruity and lasted forever. Full bodied. Incredible.

Pours a clear orange color with a medium off-white head that recedes steadily. Stringy lacing on the glass. Honeycomb aroma with notes of grain and rye. Medium body with flavors of sweet honey, piney hops, malt and a touch of rye. The finish is biscuity malt and honey with a mildly spicy hops aftertaste. Pretty enjoyable all around.

15th September 2008. Clear brown beeer -sweet spicy start, a spciy mid and a semi dry finish that is very warming. A bit different - this DIPA is more spicy than hoppy. Interesting!

Bottle, $2.95 at Wine Warehouse, Charlottesville. Pours an orange-amber with an inch of head. Aroma is chocolate malts and toast. A lot of malt in the mouth along with dark chocolate. Malts definitely overpower the hops.

Pours orangish color with off white head. Aromas of floral hops and rye. Sweet malty flavor with some grapefruity hops and a little alcohol. Medium body with average carbonation and a slightly syrupy mouthfeel.

No aroma detected. Orange pour. Dry flavor of oranges, malt, tinny. Finishes with lemon zest. I liked the regular Rye PA better.

A nice orange-caramel color with a beige head. Caramel malts, citrus hops, very sweet. Very full bodied. A little rye, some citrus hops, and a bunch of caramel malts. Too sweet for my tastes, but it’s still pretty good overall.

Another great beer from Captain Cougar. And another thanks Tom. Light amber color with a decent beige head. Very floral aroma with roasted caramel. Full bodied with creamy carbonation. Fruit, oak, oak, spice, caramel, ... wood. Finish is dry and bitter - more that just that mild floral bitter. Must be the wood. There is vanilla, but very minor - to me. Just a really good ale. Almost barley wine?

On tap at the bocktown, nice palce. Slightly darker than a pale lager, has some orange color in there. Half inch foam head that does not fade. Smells like mild zesty pine needles. Weirdly bitter. Different in an interesting kind of way. Oily bitter medicinal palate builds thru the session. Fun to try but would not purchase again. Way too much for this lager lover. Lingering alky bitter finish. This probably should be listed under a specialty grain or rye style, not DPA.
