Cask at the Mansfield Arms, near Alloa, Scotland 21-03-09 in the company of Craig, Stella and kids. Pours black with a light tan head. Roasty and bitter nose. Taste is dry and bitter but getting deeper into it there is some creaminess, but this is soon overwhelmed by some bitter coffee and burnt toast, roasty malts show in the mouth, its not bad at all. Cask at GBBF08. Sweet syrupy liquorice aroma. Almost black colour. Good roasted and vinous flavour. The mouthfeel is not exactly thick, but OK. Vinous aftertaste, getting a little tart.

Had this in 2002 (score = 3.2). Re-rated at the Cask & Barrel in Edinburgh, Sept 2010. Very dark brew. Smokey, with a beef jerky note, liquorice and some sort of gamey biltong...fun nose. Smoky palate, meaty, nice light malt character. Oh fun stuff!
