Mayflower Porter is a rich, complex brew that is smooth and full-flavored. Five varieties of malted barley provide notes of roasted coffee beans and bittersweet chocolate with a hint of smokiness.
Porter pours into the glass a dark chocolate hue with some amber highlights. The creamy head is a latte-tinted froth which sticks around and laces nicely as you finish your pint. As you tilt the glass towards you, you are met with subtle hints of dark chocolate, roasted coffee, and wood fire smoke. The flavors coming out of the glass mimic the aromas. You’re met with waves of dark chocolate cake, rich dark espresso, and light smoke from your bonfire. This porter has a medium body and an average carbonation for the style. It finishes dry, leaving you wanting another sip. This beer is to be enjoyed to its fullest illuminating the dark winter months of New England.

Bottled. A dark red-brown beer with a thin brown head. The aroma has notes of roasted malt, coffee, chocolate, and nuts. The flavor is sweet with notes of roasted malt, tar, coffee, and a bit of smoke, leading to a dry roasted finish. Thanks Papsoe for sharing.

Bottle 35,5 cl. Courtesy of Doodler. Pours an almost black with a vague tint of orange with a dense beige cappuchino head. Lovely roasted aroma, vanilla and some coffee. Medium body, some hard roast and licorice, distinct malt astringency but not unpleasantly so. 230311

From cask at Jacob Wirth. Pours dark brown to black with a small tan head. Aroma is dark malty to chocolate. Solid bitter and roasted malt flavoured. Mild acidic and bitter to bone dry. Lingering dark malty finish.

Pours a clear dark brown with beautiful ruby highlights and a creamy off white head that dissipates but never really goes away. Smells of chocolate and roast Yum! Tastes of chocolate, roast, and a bit of hop bite with a lingering roast in the finish. Creamy smooth mouthfeel, medium body, light but ample carbonation. Great porter! Smooth and silky and chocolaty. Must try more Mayflower.

12oz Bottle. Dark brown pour with red edges and a small tan head. Aroma of dark fruit, malts, brown sugar, and roasted coffee beans. Taste is very roasted with a little coffee, bitter chocolate, and nuts. Mouthfeel is a little thin. This is a better then average Porter. I would buy again.

12 ounce bottle courtesy of afausser. Thanks! Bottled 5/7/10. Pours a dark brown color with a large frothy tan head. Decent head retention and lacing. Aroma of chocolate and minty hops. The taste is chocolate, leafy and minty hop notes, and a chalky note. A bit of smoke in the finish. Thin-medium bodied. Meh.

Very nice deep dark brown coloured body with a very oily look, no head to speak of at all and an almost completely opaque look with only a little light getting through near the top of the beer. Aroma of potent roasted malt, aniseeed, alcohol, oatmeal, oysters and a touch of smoked peat. Medium to Full-bodied; Strong roasted malt and licorice taste with a roasty, sweet finish and a deep pungent flavour that persists. Aftertaste is warming with alcohol and licorice the strongest. Overall, a good porter and very respectable for the style. Showing a very dark character and almost a baltic porter it seems, but a very nice beer and one that I’m very happy to pick up. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Colonial Spirits in Acton, Massachusetts on 23-September-2010, sampled a month later on 22-October-2010 at home in Washington.

12 oz bottle from Largiari! Thanks! Nose of coffee, coffee, and more coffee with a little caramel in the background. Very dark brown with a small tan head. Flavor is white pepperiness, coffee, and a little bitter chocolate. I would love to be able to have this available locally for a session beer, but 3000+ miles?

Scored this 12oz bottle via trade. Pours a opaque, sorta thick black that had a nice mahogany red around the edges with a creamy, slighty off white head. Aroma is fairly average, sweet, caramel, dough, maybe a bit of vanilla. Flavor is nice, starts with all those toasted malts, nuts, dark chocolate, coffee and ends with some sweetness, milk chocolate, caramel, brown sugar. Finish has a lingering toastiness that is pleasant and warming.
