Our English style barleywine - rich, malty, and opulent. Great at time of release but will benefit from bottle aging for many years to come. VINTAGE DATED.

R.F.D., DC tap 10oz ($7): Pours a dark red/brown color. Aroma of sugary malts and fruits. Not so complex, but in its lack of complexity, it has plenty of drinkability. Pretty sweet. At times tastes like a one-dimensional Belgian ale, but it is a little too thick for that of course. Alcohol is well-covered. Overall. for what it is, it’s pretty good. They should make it in 40s.

Sampled on cask at Churchkey, Washington D.C. Served in a snifter. Pours a translucent, nearly opaque, copper, nut brown with a thin, spitty, clumpy, slightly off white head. Nose is malty, bready, with some apples and pears. Not a lot of citrus in the nose. Flavor is sweet, sticky fruits, some caramel, some toasted grains, a little bread. Finish is a little salty, a little sticky sweet. Finish is what I like, could have used a bit more complexity overall though.

Medium clear maroon with small off white head. Aroma of malt and candy canes. Taste of malt, caramel and light spice with a finish reminiscent of cinnamon flavored jaw breakers. Good example of the style.

No head to speak of; reddish cola-coloured beer. Fruity nose, fruitcake with markedly pineapple - even canned pineapple - and alcohol in the background. More bitter in the flavour; again sweetish with fruit (pineapple) but set off by indistinct bitterness. Alcohol present, probably some fusels. Well bodied and slick, oily, some alcoholburn. It’s pleasing in a mile way, but - as exemplified by the pineapple, that is a very primary ester - complexity is not the main feature of this barely wine (pun intended). Thanks to DavidA!

Nice deep copper coloured body with strong ruby highlights and a super-thin off-white head. Aroma of strong pit fruits, nice toasted malt, toffee, light hops and a potent alcohol flavour. Medium to Full-bodied; Strong potent alcohol taste with malt and toffee noticeable. Aftertaste short but very strong. Overall - this one needs some age, its a bit rough around the edges...but after time might be better. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased at Chevy Chase Wine & Liquors in Washington, D.C. on 26-December-2005.

Pours deep amber into a snifter. Off-white head recedes to nothing; leaving no lacing. Spicy caramel aromas. Spritzy caramel syrup upfront turning into a hoppy alcohol burn. Interesting.

Bottle. Pours a light brown with just a few small bubbles drifting around. Aromas are heavy fruit -strawberries of all odd things- and caramel/brown sugar. Mouthfeel is kind of fizzy (but there is not a lot of carbonation so it might just be the slightly abrasive alcohol.) Flavor is heavy alcohol with some brown sugar, fig, and more alcohol. Maybe a touch of those strawberries and some metal from time to time. If nothing else, it packs a punch.

’’Brown 12 oz bottle in a big clear tumbler. Alarming alky ethanol olfactory, do I perhaps even smell some rubbing alcohol in there? Orangy colored iced tea appearance, looks very pretty with the sunset shining thru it, appears viscous and sparkling. Quite strong initial alky taste impressions. This is going to be a buzzy session. No lacing except a g-string. Coating without much carbonation. 2 bottles of this and yer done. Terrible, uness bitter beer, on style! heheheh s4L3f1t3o4’’
