Bottle: Nose is weak, but tones of smoke, slight mushroom. Taste is is roasted malt, hazelnut, slight cocoa. Very lightly smokey, despite nose. Mouthfeel is oily and too thin. A passable session porter.

Cask@Market Porter, London. Deep rubyish brown colour with a small bubbly off-white head. Aroma is roasted malts, nuts, some slight ashes and mild liquorice and dark chocolaty notes. Flavour is ashy, roasted, mild liquorice, chocolate and some toasted bready notes. Quite grassy and herbal tones in the finish. Tasty and good warming beer.

Pigs Ear. Very dark brown beer, clear. Toffee and roasted nuts on the nose and carrying over to the flavour. A little toasted malt and then hops fruit coming through. Finishes dry. Tasty.

Cask gravity at Pig’s Ear BF 09. Very dark ruby, lasting thin ivory head. Roasted choc aroma. Dry malt, smells quite full. Enormously drinkable, doesn’t taste of 6%. I liked it. Smooth, with hop finish, really quite bitter.

Cask. A deep red beer with a tan head. The aroma has notes of malt - sweet as well as roasted as well as notes of soy sauce. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt again both sweet and roasted, leading to a dry, bitter, and roasted finish.

On handpull at Ye Cracke, Liverpool 28-11-08. The abv of this was 6% and it was called Mistress Zad Dark Domintaion but looking at the commercial description this is the Oct to Dec version. Pours dark brown in fact its almost black with an off white small bubbly head. Dark roasted molassess dominate proceedings but the expected juicy hops also burst through. Some cold coffee dregs are also present, it’s a very decent beer. A6 A4 F8 P4 OV15 3.7
