A classic and highly popular amber coloured session ale. Based on a recipe handed down by generations of Hydes Brewers, this is our biggest selling product. We use a combination of the finest malts and English hops – Fuggles and Wye Challenger to provide a fruity and spicy palate. Like all of Hydes cask ales they are dry hopped to add aroma and depth to this Moorish beer.

Half, hand pulled, excellent cask quality at the Grey Horse. Clear copper body colour. Spotty lacing to the glassware. Leafy hops to the nose. Bitter resin-like hops to the taste buds added by a mild malty sweetness. Plain bitter finish. A good, standard Brit bitter ale (Manchester, 07.07.2012).

Cask at JDW Penny Black, Bicester, 22-10-06. This was labelled as Original Bitter as I recall on the pumpclip but strength was 3.8% like the one here and I couldn’t find an Original on the Hydes list so hope this is in the correct place. Almost golden in colour with very little head, It had that Northern taste about it, not that I can describe that particularly well, but like Mungo states this did have an earthy twang about it. Very flavoursome for it’s strength nice hoppy bitter but balanced out by some sweetness this was a jolly decent session beer.

(Cask at Dutton Hotel, Manchester, 28 July) Colour is amber/orange with firm off-white head. Nose is fruity with notes of apricot and mandarin. Taste is fruity with notes of orange and mandarin, moderatly hoppy bitterness in the finish. Well balanced and nice, but hardly exciting.

Cask handpull at Red Lion, Isleworth. Golden with thin white head. Pretty bland, run of the mill bitter. Some yeast and hop on aroma, dry earthiness on end. Bit tingly on finish
